Description:
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
You will have the following accountabilities:
- Ensure a safe working environment for all employees and contractors under your control and set the example of excellent Safety behaviour for all.
- Provide leadership by example to those working under your supervision in all aspects of your role.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment.
- Overseeing the Maintenance/projects to ensure that the desired result is achieved, the most efficient resources are used and that the different interests involved are satisfied.
- Assist in the submission of Pre-Qualification documents and when required work with the team to submit detailed tenders for work.
- Close liaison with the Commercial Team, ensuring all commercial objectives are met, that change is identified, agreed with the client, and managed effectively and for the timely submission of information required for the submission of Applications and Invoices.
- Ensure that sufficient resources are provided, together with infrastructure and equipment for all works under your control and that where possible the programme of works is maintained.
- Ensure that the company’s standards and quality of service are maintained at all times for works under your control.
- Generate new contracts and maintain relationships with existing client, helping grow the maintenance department.
- Assist in the Identification, training and development needs for staff and contract workers under your control.
- Undertake all reasonable tasks as instructed by their Line Manager.
- Collaborate with other departments to coordinate maintenance activities with ongoing projects.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests and resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Supervise Plant and machinery where necessary to carry out works in a safe compliant manner.
- Manage staff discipline, appraisals, rostering and identifying progress and training needs.
- Manage maintenance budgets and expenses, identifying cost-saving opportunities where possible.
- Develop and maintain the current track patrol reporting process.
- Capture day works carried out by the maintenance teams, ensuring Quantity surveyor is aware of the changes.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
To be considered for this role you should ideally have:
- ONC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
- Proven experience in Pway maintenance works including an appropriate period of time acting in a Managerial or Supervisory capacity.
- Experience of Project planning, sequencing of works and critical path planning.
- Excellent communication & people skills – developing & managing the relationship with the client is a key element in this contract.
- Good knowledge and understanding of track standards, processes and procedures.
- Ideally hold COSS SW1.
- Confidence and ability to assert influence.
- Computer literate and working knowledge in Microsoft office applications.
- Full driving licence

THE ROLE
An opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Manager to join VolkerRail Metro & Rail Projects working at various locations – Doncaster Office and sites such as Hartlepool, Leicester, Lindsey Oil Refinery, Port Talbot, Southampton.
Metro and Rail Projects (MRP) have extensive experience of working on high profile projects for most of the UK’s light rail and tram operators and on the UK heavy rail network. We are recognised as a market leader for the provision of renewal and minor enhancements services to the light rail sector and as a supplier of choice to the wider rail market.
Our specialist teams continue to offer high quality track construction, maintenance and renewals to a wide range of clients including: Nottingham Express Transit, Manchester Metrolink, Sheffield Supertram, and London Tramlink as well as a number of Major Contractors on the heavy rail network.
To be considered for this role you should ideally have:
- ONC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
