Description:
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Building Services Team in the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre (JCBC). You will be expected to undertake a part-time level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technical apprenticeship at Cambridge Regional College. You will be an integral part of the JCBC Building Services Team, aiming to support Institute groups to work together in a single location to create a fully-integrated, vibrant and cohesive scientific research community.
This role provides a chance to work alongside experienced staff to gain practical experience and a qualification. Being part of the team ensuring the smooth running of the building, core equipment and facilities means the role is varied and you need to be able to adapt to changing priorities and work well under pressure. It is important that you are someone who understands and applies problem solving skills and is keen to learn and apply the practices and procedures for planning to maintain systems and equipment. The role will provide support across building and equipment maintenance, safety management, laboratory support, trouble-shooting and working at the customer service coal-face.
This is a great opportunity to join a busy and successful team whilst working towards your NVQ Level 3 in Maintenance and Operations Engineering and building your professional skills. This standard will meet the professional standards of the Engineering Council for registration as Engineering Technician (Eng Tech) by an appropriate Professional Engineering Institution.
You will have strong organisation and communication skills and be able to pay attention to detail whilst keeping on top of a number of tasks at once. You will have some experience of basic computer programmes such as word processing, spreadsheets and email and have the ability to build strong working relationships whilst having the motivation to learn new skills. You must be educated to GCSE level or equivalent with a minimum of a grade c/4 in Maths and English. An interest in machinery, engineering and building operations management would be an advantage.
You will be supported by having weekly meetings with your line manager and regular assessments and reviews by your Assessor to ensure you are on track to successfully achieve your qualification.
The role will sit in the Building Services Team in the JCBC which houses three world-leading institutes including the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute https://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/.
