The occupant of this position is a member of the Operational Technology and Engineering (OT&E) Section. The role of the OT&E Section is to ensure the development, delivery and operation of measurement equipment and systems meet the Bureau’s performance and functional requirements. This includes the following sensors/networks:
- Radar and Wind Profilers
- Automatic Weather Stations
- Solar Radiation
- Upper Air
- Flood Warning
- Sea Level
- Aircraft Based Observations
Operational Technology and Engineering is made up of a diverse team of specialists and engineers responsible for the development and design of engineering and technological solutions, incorporating level three support, on a range of technologies spanning from radars to rainfall stations, drifting buoys to dedicated observations and satellites to ships at sea to meet business needs.
This position focuses on the management and operation of the Engineering Maintenance Support Centre (EMSC). EMSC is a workshop facility co-located with the Bureau of Meteorology Training Centre (BMTC) in Broadmeadows. EMSC is primarily responsible for the repair and overhaul of the rotable spares and equipment for much of the Bureau’s observations network, either in-house or by external contractors. Additionally, the facility directly supports OTE activities, other Observing Systems and Operations teams, Finance and Supply and BMTC.
