Description:

Grieg Seafood BC Ltd., a dynamic and growing company in the Aquaculture industry, is seeking to hire a permanent full-time Maintenance Technician to support our Freshwater Production Team. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the day to day maintenance and smooth operation of the equipment at our freshwater hatchery and broodstock facilities in Gold River, BC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Day to day maintenance and upkeep of equipment of the freshwater production facilities, namely: boilers, wells and pumps, Gensets, oxygen and propane bulk tanks, UV light filters, heat exchangers, drum filters, as well as various electrical motors, pumps and gas engines;
  • Record changes to maintenance, start-ups and shutdowns and maintain site records;
  • Repair and upkeep feeders and feeder boxes as/when needed;
  • Monitor and maintenance of septic system, oxygen systems, water systems, pumps and blowers;
  • Trouble shoot problems, as/when required;
  • Be familiar with mixing and temperature control procedures of all water systems;
  • Test and record heat exchanger efficiencies;
  • Test and record LHO readings;
  • Be familiar with procedures for recording oxygen and propane levels and coordinate deliveries;
  • Understand and be able to perform all flow meter and well readings;
  • Liaise with outside trades people for maintenance and repairs of electrical equipment and other plant equipment and systems as/when needed;
  • Adhere to and be familiar with all lock out procedures;
  • Ensure Occupational Health and Safety procedures and protocols are always adhered to.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years related or general maintenance work experience, with a preference for previous experience in Aquaculture, particularly in hatchery design, construction or recirculation;
  • Certificate or Diploma from accredited program in Aquaculture, or related field an asset;
  • Ability to evaluate information and analyze problems logically to develop solutions;
  • Proficient with the operation of a forklift and other heavy equipment;
  • Must possess strength and mobility to perform physical work, sometimes outdoors in all weather conditions, using basic hand and power tools, and other equipment;
  • Physically fit with the ability to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment;
  • Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong organization and time-management skills;
  • Favorable driver’s license.
