Walker & Sloan, a leading recruitment agency, is seeking a highly-skilled Management Accountant on behalf of our client, a dynamic construction company with ambitious growth plans. Our client specialises in commercial construction and is looking for a qualified professional to ensure the financial health and success of their business.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in management accounting, preferably within the commercial construction industry and SME sector.
  • Proficiency in Sage 200 accounting software is essential.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across different teams while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of UK GAAP and financial regulations.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in managing payroll.
  • Strong Excel and data manipulation skills.
  • A dynamic, friendly, problem-solving, professional, and commercial approach.

Responsibilities:

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Management Accountant will report to the Head of Finance and play a pivotal role in providing reliable, timely, accurate, and meaningful financial information. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in commercial construction and proficiency in Sage 200.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare monthly accounts, supporting schedules, and other financial reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with the client’s accounting policies.
  • Provide insightful analysis and recommendations, including variance to budget, prior year, and trends.
  • Collaborate with project teams to provide guidance and insights into project performance and financial risks.
  • Conduct cost analysis and implement cost control measures to optimize project and company profitability.
  • Work with the Head of Finance to ensure efficient and effective use of accounting and project-costing software.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory reporting requirements such as VAT and CIS returns, PAYE/NIC submissions, etc.
  • Provide necessary information to external payroll processor to ensure accurate and timely staff payments and deductions. Handle payroll queries from staff or relevant authorities. Prepare and submit P11Ds.
  • Assist with cashflow management and forecasting.
  • Support annual company budgeting and profit forecasting.
  • Assist the Head of Finance with the annual statutory audit.
  • Participate in pricing and costing reviews as required.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of financial processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting tasks as required by senior management.
  • Provide holiday cover for other members of the finance team as required.
