JOB DESCRIPTION

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, our Finance teams are important to our business and functional teams to make educated, sound decisions that drive our Mission and make us a stable and trusted industry leader. The Manager of Accounting will be responsible for developing and implementing a strong accounting vision, reporting directly to the Director of Finance, BioServices Specialty Logistics. The position will ensure the integrity of accounting and financial reporting by providing leadership, business partnership, process knowledge and technical expertise. This role will partner closely with the Clinical Trial Division (CTD) accounting team and Corporate Accounting teams to drive the improvement of controls, optimize processes, and ultimately transition from reactive to proactive risk management.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 5+ years of multifaceted accounting/finance leadership experience with a combination of public accounting and demonstrated experience
  • An undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA or equivalent designation preferred
  • Experience with FAR and CAS requirements for Government Contracting
  • Must have comprehensive experience in general accounting with an extensive knowledge of Government Accounting.
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement with a successful track record of optimizing processes with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Consistent track record to operate independently with broad guidance against a framework of defined business objectives in a matrix environment.
  • Experience in a leading and diverse global financial organization and participate in month-end close in an accurate and timely manner while maintaining a strong control environment.
  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP with proven sophisticated accounting and technical skills including experience with sophisticated revenue arrangements in a manufacturing environment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to authoritatively present sophisticated information to all levels of the organization are required.
  • Ability to thrive in a large, fast-pace, matrixed organization, and history of leading cross functional teams to build interpersonal relationships with peers and operating partners across functions & geographies.
  • Prior experience and expertise in working with financial software such as CODA, Hyperion Financial Management and Hyperion Planning.
  • Ability to set appropriate priorities with multiple projects and implement them successfully.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead close process with a focus on driving improvement and collaboration with remote/on-site staff.
  • Ensure accurate, timely and complete consolidations and reporting of all in scope entities.
  • Maintain a highly effective control environment with deep understanding of end-to-end Controllership processes, assess current processes gaps and tools in place across the Division and GBS teams to ensure the efficiency of financial controls in compliance with US GAAP, SOX requirements and company-wide policies
  • Lead cross functional initiatives to drive improvement in execution and improve compliance; including monthly analytical reviews, peer reviews, and balance sheet reviews.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Technical Accounting teams to perform technical accounting research on dynamic issues to ensure proper accounting treatment.
  • Support controllership on the creation of data infrastructure and reporting tools that transform the month-end close process, balance sheet reconciliation/analysis, risk analysis and management reviews in support of transformation activities.
