  • Relevant Level 7 Tertiary qualification: Careers guidance qualification.
  • Experience in career development, career counselling, vocational counselling services and initiatives, preferably with youth and adult learners in a tertiary context.
  • The ability to provide and/or contribute to strategic and operational leadership within a complex multi stakeholder environment.
  • Experience in coordination, planning and running career-based workshops for diverse client groups.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the career, employment, programme and course opportunities available to clients in Ōtautahi Canterbury and Aotearoa New Zealand, as well as globally.
  • Member of CDANZ or similar professional organisation or eligibility to join.
  • Experience in employment services and initiatives.
  • The ability to assist in a client’s development of work readiness, job search and CV preparation, and other work-related skills
  • The ability to develop professional, individual plans with clients to meet their individual career development and employment needs.
  • Experience working in a diverse environment and understanding of cultural capability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer focussed interpersonal skills for a variety of stakeholders and situations.
  • Capable of dealing with both internal and external customers - demonstrates empathy and builds trust

Responsibilities:

The Student Transition team works in partnership with departments to support our educational objectives and to support student success in the Tertiary - Industry Transition space. The Careers and Employment team supports potential and current students to make informed decisions about their career paths, and current and graduated students in gaining successful employment outcomes.
This team provide a comprehensive range of career development services including a professional career counselling service; a range of career development, work readiness, and employability initiatives; study and work-related information and resources; online linkages to employers who can hire students and graduates for employment; and transition support to employment.
This key role will lead the team, services, and innovative initiatives that support successful career and employment outcomes for Ara Ākonga/Learners; alignment with the organisation’s strategic goals; and enjoy directly supporting learners in their career and employment journey.
