The role provides support to the Client Asset Oversight Officer (“CAOO”) and is based within the ring-fenced Group of HSBC in the UK comprised of HSBC UK Bank plc (“HBUK”) and HSBC Trust Company Limited (“HTCU”). The role is to work with the CAOO and wider team to ensure that there is adequate oversight of the operational effectiveness of the HBUK and HTCU systems and controls that are designed to achieve compliance with the Client Asset (“CASS”) rules.

In this role you will:

  • Supporting the CAOO to ensure an appropriate level of oversight is maintained over the firm’s CASS processes and controls and any deficiencies are identified and appropriately remediated.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to the business on CASS matters as they arise including incidents which may result in breaches of the rules, changes to processes and procedures, and changes to products.
  • Leading the breach management process to ensure that breaches are reported in a timely manner with robust root cause analysis undertaken to identify appropriate actions to prevent recurrence. This involves working with operational teams across wealth and private bank and liaising with compliance.
  • Member of the CASS Committee which forms a key element of the firms CASS governance cycle including monthly updates on breaches.
  • Preparation of papers for the CASS Committee as required.
  • Responsibility for various CASS oversight documents including high level CASS procedures, Total Capture Matrices and Client Money Bank Account Due Diligence.
  • Responsibility for the preparation of the monthly Client Money and Assets Return (CMAR) for both entities including detailed analytical review to ensure movements are understood and explained.
  • Daily Oversight of one CASS manager providing leadership and support to enable individuals to reach their full potential.
  • CASS SME on strategic change programmes ensuring that CASS requirements appropriately considered and appropriate CASS tollgates/approvals built into the project plans as required.

  • A high technical understanding of CASS rules and the risks of insolvency that they address and develop a detailed knowledge of all aspects of the firm’s activities.
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to distil complex and varied data into useable information.
  • Delivery-focused with attention to detail and ensure tasks are completed on time and to the required levels of quality.
  • Ability to build relationships and work with stakeholders across the business by communicating, influencing and negotiating effectively including operations, compliance, risk and external auditors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to prioritise workload effectively in line with business priorities.
  • ‘Can Do’ attitude. Willing to turn a hand to whatever task is required.
