We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, engaging leader, to join the Southwestern Public Health (SWPH) team and provide effective communication, leadership to the communications portfolio. The individual will collaborate with leaders throughout the organization and demonstrate exceptional people management skills complemented by strong problem solving and change management expertise.
As a hands-on, organized individual, the Manager, Communications, is responsible for implementing innovative approaches to branding, marketing, web, and social media that foster a long-term communication strategy and builds on the success of SWPH’s programs and services.
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Services and Human Resources, the Manager, Communications is responsible for the oversight of the communications portfolio. This responsibility includes, providing leadership and supervision to all communication functions, planning, media relations, publications, social media, emergency communication, internal messaging, and corporate identity at Southwestern Public Health (SWPH).

What will you do?

  • Develop and support, internal and external communication strategies that drive public health program excellence and the SWPH culture.
  • Oversee communication strategies and working with a multitude of leaders throughout the organization to develop and deliver communications through multiple channels.
  • Ensure that SWPH’s message and communications are consistent and timely for all key audiences.
  • Be creative, build new practices, frameworks, and resources to support public health programs and services in the delivery of key messages.
  • Partner with media representatives and support special announcements and live engagements as needed.
  • Promote and share in a culture of leadership, that champions public health principles with passion, purpose, and professionalism.

The successful candidate will posses the following qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a related communication, media studies, public relations, journalism field of study from a post-secondary education institution that is recognized by the province of Ontario.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a communications role with progressive experience in strategic communications, planning and managerial leadership that leads change, innovation, and program success.
  • Thorough understanding of traditional and emerging marketing and communication channels.
  • Proven experience in identifying target audiences and in creatively devising and leading marketing campaigns that engage, educate, and motivate.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of emerging trends and best practices in online marketing, technologies and methodologies in graphic design, web design and production. Capable and versed in social media marketing and website management.
  • Effective leadership attributes to motivate and develop a relationship with peers and individuals reporting to the position.
  • Significant experience in writing, proofing, editing material, and presenting proposals.

Terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Employment Agreement.
Salary Range: $60.01/hr to $67.50/hr (70 hours in a two-week period).
OMERS pension and a comprehensive Health and Dental benefits package upon completion of the probationary period.
A criminal reference check completed within the last six (6) months from a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPID), inclusive of vulnerable sector screening, will be required of the successful candidate.
Immunization Requirements: Provide documentation you have received two (2) doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, plus at least one booster dose, and acknowledgement to follow Southwestern Public Health’s policies and processes related to COVID-19 management in the workplace.
