INDIVIDUAL SKILLS:

  • Strong storyteller with an understanding of how to create a narrative both internally and externally.
  • Exceptional written communications skills including editing, proofreading and attention to detail.
  • Experience with employee engagement and organizational change communications.
  • Self-starter with the ability to deliver strategic communications plans, desired outcomes and creative ways of communicating.
  • Understanding of external media channels, including social media, and internal channels to promote People & Culture executives and priorities.
  • Ability to confidently counsel senior leaders with positive outcomes while keeping the employee experience top of mind.
  • Plan, prioritize and collaborate with others to meet tight deadlines and deliver measurable outcomes based on communications plans.
  • Ability to manage and coach team members to help them grow and develop.
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship management and project management skills.
  • Strong relationship building skills and ability to maneuver multi-stakeholder teams in a high volume environment.

Responsibilities:

THIS IS A 15-MONTH CONTRACT ROLE.

Are you a creative, engaging, and driven communications professional who is passionate about telling stories, creating exceptional employee experiences and working collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver results? If so, this role is for you.
The Manager, Corporate Communications will lead the development of communications to support Sun Life’s People & Culture team including future of work, diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) and talent initiatives. The role requires an experienced communications professional with a strong understanding of how to deliver impactful internal and external communications and navigate efficiently across teams and stakeholders. This individual will have experience executing both employee communications and media relations. The manager will report to the Director of Corporate Communications and have one direct report.
We’re looking for a passionate team player who is proactive, creative and proven in their ability to drive outcomes. The successful candidate will collaborate while challenging traditional thinking and successfully execute communicating, advancing and promoting the priorities across People & Culture.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Provide communications counsel while developing strategies and materials that align to People & Culture’s strategic priorities including future of work, DE&I, and talent programs.
  • Build and execute integrated communications plans – both internal and external – finding new, creative and fresh ways to support and promote People & Culture’s priorities.
  • Provide communications counsel and advice to leaders and partners for employee communications, social media, media interviews and external opportunities.
  • Fuel employee engagement by delivering creative and visual internal communications tied to People & Culture priorities.
  • Create and execute the global communication plan for the CEO’s Awards of Excellence with clearly defined goals and desired outcomes.
  • Provide advice and support in counselling leaders and partners on strategic communications and helping to shift the focus from internal to an integrated approach.
  • Oversee, write and edit content for the intranet and other employee communications channels.
  • Lead a high-performing team while coaching and mentoring junior team members.
  • Review materials produced by team members for consistency, impact, and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the manager supporting Total Rewards on communications related to HR and the employee experience to ensure alignment.
  • Collaborate with counterparts in the US and Asia to support global alignment.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the media landscape and current issues affecting both the businesses and the organization holistically.
  • Provide support on issues management, with an emphasis on helping to protect and build Sun Life’s reputation.
  • Ensure measurements and metrics are in place to review results and effectiveness of communications activities.
