About us
As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
Purpose of the role
The Digital Learning Deployment Unit coordinates the management, development, maintenance and deployment of electronic learning (e-learning) training packages, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) that utilises Extended Reality (XR) hardware, digital software systems, and innovative content to support the maintenance of skills acquisition and professional development through accredited and non-accredited courses across the department and regional training environments. The team communicates across services and engages with capability owners to ensure the content and delivery of products is relevant, current, fit-for-purpose, and assessment tools are mapped to support the requirements of the Registered Training Authority and industry standards for qualifications that are nationally recognised for operational staff and volunteers.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, Training and Support Services, you will be responsible for leading the effective management, development and coordination of digital learning resources, ICT equipment and systems utilised within the department’s digital learning environment. You will manage and oversee the deployment of XR technology and systems used for the delivery of training to state training centres and across all Regions. These activities will involve the administration of online systems through the use of content management systems to coordinate and curate digital content that improves service delivery of organisational and operational capabilities to the communities of Queensland.
This will be achieved through the development and implementation of workflows and procedures to ensure the successful deployment of hardware and software applications.
Key requirements

Highly desirable requirements

  • Knowledge or experience in design, production and delivery of audio-visual or interactive learning content to develop training programs and packages would be considered highly desirable.
  • Practical experience of design, delivery and review of eLearning programs and information sessions utilising tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Articulate Storyline, or WordPress.
  • Knowledge or experience in project management methodologies.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department and in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

  • Lead and manage the development of visual and audio-visual content, resources and digital training packages to support the delivery of training and professional development in accordance with organisational and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with a range of key internal and external, including the broader Fire and Emergency Services industry to develop and refine the use of XR technology for the delivery of training programs.
  • Provide high-quality advice, consultancy and support to management and senior regional management to promote the use and ongoing development of ER technology for the delivery of training programs.
  • Manage and coordinate the research, analysis, collaboration and dissemination of information relating to best practice and processes in the planning, capture and distribution of XR and media content across a range of related industries.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships, networks and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to support information sharing and participation in the development of e-Learning programs, immersive experiences, and the use of XR technologies.
  • Prepare, review and manage complex correspondence, briefs, submissions and reports relating to the development, deployment, issues or impacts of the digital learning capability, in accordance with departmental requirements and governance.
  • Represent the department on meetings and workshops relating to projects, initiatives and continuous improvement involving format and delivery of contemporary digital learning programs and best practice.
  • Manage a multi-disciplinary team, fostering positive teamwork, through effective human resource, budgets and financial management practices, and assist in the ongoing development of staff through performance planning and review.
