Rubicon Publishing, a Savvas Company, is seeking an experienced Manager who will help oversee primary portfolios relating to Mathematics. As a leader of the publishing team, the ideal candidate will have at least ten years of experience in educational publishing, leading a team in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
You are passionate about education and will lead a dynamic team to help create innovative learning solutions for use in classrooms across Canada. As Manager, you are responsible for the identification, conceptualization, validation, and strategic development of new projects and educational solutions in mathematics. You will work collaboratively with senior management teams across the organization to create sound business plans for corporate approval for each project.
Responsibilities
- Create a long-term publishing plan that is financially viable and aligns with the company’s goals and strategic direction
- Identify potential new publishing projects; conduct, analyze, and synthesize market research; identify viable solutions and project goals
- Conceptualize and validate each new project to meet the unique needs of the market and ensure the vision and strategic messaging of the product effectively meets the goals of the project
- Create development plans to ensure that the product meets key success factors such as curriculum congruence, solid instructional design, appropriate method(s) of delivery, and scope of individual components.
- Develop, monitor, and manage budgets for each project, including breakdowns for market research, contributing authors and contributors, freelance and in-house staffing, and external consultation and reviews
- Recruit, hire, and supervise editorial staff in in collaboration with your team Supervisors
- Recruit and liaise with authors, contributors, advisors, and subject matter experts in collaboration with sales and marketing teams
- Establish and manage relationships with internal and external business partners and vendors to meet project deliverables
Supervisory responsibilities
- Manage and oversee senior editorial staff members, in conjunction with your team Supervisors.
Other duties
- Liaise with sales and marketing to successfully pre-sell, launch, and implement a project and help complete submissions for key adoptions.
- Support sales and marketing by conducting training and implementation presentations and assisting in the creation of marketing materials, as required.
- Lead the product training of sales and marketing personnel for each new project.
- Validate opportunities with market research by meeting with key stakeholders and customers across Canada and developing relationships with senior level people in boards and districts. Note: Travel across Canada is required.
- Initiate and support the creation of project prototypes to ensure your alignment with your vision.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- At least 10 years of experience in educational publishing in a leadership role
- A minimum of a University degree; a degree in Education and/or mathematics is an asset
- Proven track record conceptualizing and leading multiple professional and educational projects in print and digital formats
- Results-oriented, strategic problem-solver, innovator, creative thinker
- Strong ability to conduct research, test, and deploy new solutions and strategies
- Strong ability to create budgets and work collaboratively with other senior staff members to create business plans for corporate approval
- Strong ability to manage and monitor project scope and approved budgets
- Solid knowledge and understanding of the Canadian K–12 landscape, including various Canadian curricula and effective instructional practices, and emerging educational trends and developments
- Current understanding and knowledge of digital technologies, including Learning Management Systems software tools, and other web and multi-media applications.
- Professional expertise in customized content development, implementation, and evaluation for in-class and virtual learning environments
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Skilled in recruiting, managing, and mentoring multiple teams of internal and external teams of editors, subject matter experts, advisors, and
- Skilled at delegating tasks, providing clear direction and feedback, and fostering a respectful, team-oriented work environment
- Strong oral and written proficiency in English; oral and written proficiency in French and Spanish is an asset
