EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University in Environmental, Health, and Safety

EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years working in a EHS position
  • Associated certifications such as CSP or CIH are preferred.
  • Experience in working in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
  • Experience with site oversight of EHS management, environmental permitting and associated requirements, process safety management, industrial hygiene, risk management, occupational services management, safety emergency response and fire protection responsibilities throughout the entire site including all processes, procedures and equipment; as well as

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA and EPA regulations relative to work environment as well as other regulatory requirements including NFPA, ASHRAE, DOT, EPA, building and fire codes, etc. Knowledge of Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and FDA/industry expectations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local/state requirements and experience and excellent people skills to collaborate with associated officials and regulatory agents.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and organization skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure while multi-tasking and remain results oriented.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in the use of computerized office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.). Effective time management and prioritization skills.
  • Strong team member who works well with others.
  • Ability and desire to learn biological/pharmaceutical processes and associated EHS requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Report to site EHS / Security Director and be asked to participate Site Leadership Team when filling in for the EHS /Security Director. Communicate/harmonize with all levels from operational to corporate staff.
  • Provide overall direction to environmental, health and safety programs in compliance with corporate and site procedures, cGMPs and regulatory and code requirements
  • Implement and be responsible for corporate EHS initiatives, coordinate EHS performance reporting internally and externally
  • Provide for the management of site emergency responses including fire, inclement weather, chemical spills, medical emergencies, etc.
  • Identify strategic environment, health, risk management or safety company requirements, perform evaluations, and develop appropriate company policies, standards and direct implementation of final plans. Ensure compliance and implementation of corporate EHS initiatives.
  • Resolve areas for potential improvement in business operations related to pollution prevention and waste management and advise the implementation of programs that improve efficiency of environmental operations.
  • Directly contact federal, state and local legislative and regulatory agencies, public officials and business leaders on environment, risk management and safety issues that have impact on company operations.
  • Build an injury-free and incident-free workplace.
  • Provide EHS support for capital projects.
  • Help coordinates regulatory customer internal audits of sites, programs, products, procedures, resolutions of audit findings; as well as support of emergency response organization and departmental teams.
  • Prepares site management and corporate Safety regulatory reports, training programs, briefings, analyses, project documentation, and reviews same from other staff members as appropriate.
  • Monitors and provides communication on employee performance, attendance and compliance with company policies and government regulations. Provides training and/or opportunities for career development of staff.
