JOB DESCRIPTION:

T he Manager Engineering leads the Engineering D iscipline T eam in providing advanced engineering support and specialized aircraft expertise to the Southwest Maintenance and Engineering Organization. This role will support aircraft component repairs, modifications, and on- aircraft troubleshooting accomplished on Southwest’s fleet for all assigned systems and components. The Manager Engineering is a strategic thinker who is ready to find ways to enhance our fleet structures and find new ways to strengthen our technology.

Responsibilities
Manages and supervises assigned Engineers, exercising proper control and discipline within the delegated authority and Company Policy
Coordinate technical requirements with the Manufacturer and Repair agencies for assigned systems
Represent Southwest Airlines at Industry Technical Conferences, Working Groups, and other related technical meetings as directed by the Director of Engineering
Provides technical support and assistance for all assigned ATA chapters and systems within the Maintenance and Engineering departments and other departments as required
Remain current on all assigned systems and equipment, state of the art designs and related repair techniques
Reviews related Service and Regulatory documents and initiates required action by generating appropriate Southwest Airlines documents
Provides technical support to Southwest Airlines Legal Department and assists as a Liaison with regulatory Compliance with FAA and other Regulatory agencies as required or requested
Maintains a constant vigilance on all related CFR’s and regulatory changes affecting Southwest Airlines Maintenance
Identifies cost saving initiatives/modifications to be performed on Southwest’s fleet and accomplishes the cost/benefit studies to justify or negate these proposals
Coordinates the day-to-day reliability surveillance of assigned systems and components
Provides periodic reports as required/requested for assigned systems and components
Provides internal training as needed for assigned systems and components
May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thoroughly knowledgeable of the Southwest maintenance program, or have relevant knowledge of maintenance programs in general through experience at another airline or in a similarly regulated, safety sensitive industry
Knowledge of FAA requirements
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
Skilled in making effective oral and written presentations to peers, management, and executives
Skilled in reading and comprehending aircraft technical publications, such as drawings, engineering orders, maintenance tasks, aircraft manuals, etc
Skilled in understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
Skilled in utilizing data processing software, such as MS Office Suite, especially Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint or equivalent systems
Skilled in motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best People for the job to ensure strong Team collaboration
Ability to work well under pressure, be detail oriented, meet deadlines and exhibit excellent organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions, and adjust schedule based on changing priorities
Ability to assume a high level of responsibility and to provide direction in a Team-oriented environment
Expert ability to communicate in a flexible and effective manner Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
Demonstrated experience in directly or indirectly leading team(s)

FULLY FUNCTIONING BROAD KNOWLEDGE IN:

Aircraft Engineering at an Airline, OEM, or MRO
Developing and/or implementing process changes
Licensing/Certification
Must be able to obtain a SIDA (Secured Identification Display Area) badge and meet all local airport requirements
Physical Abilities
Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guideline
