KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Industry knowledge and experience: Solid understanding of the specifics of the forwarding industry including (but not limited to) rules and regulations, industry practices etc.
  • Extensive expertise in the transport of Dangerous Goods and strong understanding of import regulations, customs procedures, and documentation requirements
  • Project management expertise: strong project management skills, effectively planning, organizing, and executing projects from start to finish.
  • Business acumen: Deep understanding of the organization’s business goals and objectives, allowing the person to align technology solutions with strategic initiatives and drive value for the business.
  • Technical knowledge: Solid understanding of technology and IT systems, enabling effective communication and collaboration with technical teams, as well as informed decision making regarding solution design and implementation.
  • Stakeholder management: Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including business leaders, clients, vendors, and internal teams. Effective expectations management and alignment throughout the solution delivery process.
  • Problem-solving skills: Adept at identifying and resolving issues - strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, enabling the person to make informed decisions and find innovative solutions.
  • Communication and leadership: They possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and can effectively lead and motivate cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives. They can effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
    Education level – Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience/qualification
    Experience level - more than 6 years relevant experience preferably in forwarding logistic and process improvement; Preferably supervisory or team lead experience

Responsibilities:

JOB PURPOSE

Ensure that the handling of hazardous cargo in DHL Global Forwarding is consistently compliant to all legal guidelines and requirements. The Dangerous Goods Manager is responsible for establishing standardized Dangerous Goods protocols in coordination with relevant stakeholders and to make sure they are executed on a global scale.
This also entails the development and implementation of a respective training programs, reporting and monitoring system to enable adequate risk assessment, as well as driving continuous improvement in dangerous goods management practices.
The role is responsible for both Air Freight and Ocean Freight and requires active collaboration and alignment with the operations functions in both products.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop and implement global Dangerous Goods standards in alignment with all relevant stakeholders on a global scale
  • Improve, change or adapt functional processes, systems and services in line with group standards
  • Ensure that company-wide dangerous goods processes comply with all relevant legal requirements, industry regulations and internal policies.
  • Monitor changes in global legal framework and inform management and employees about any updates
  • Create and update product manuals, procedural instructions, and work instructions
  • Develop commodity specific guides
  • Establish training material & curriculum, deliver and monitor trainings
  • Provide support on issues and problems for less established regional or country organisations
  • Lead regular update meetings with regional DG officers across the globe to agree on aligned global standards, enhance communication across geographies and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Establish monitoring and reporting mechanism system to facilitate proper risk management, conduct risk assessments and provide regular reports to management
  • Document and submit business requirements to IT applications project teams for DG relevant topics
  • Handle globally relevant inquiries about controlled items/military goods if related to DG
  • Align with Marketing & Sales for Dangerous Goods specific matters
  • Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to understand their needs, gather requirements, and manage expectations
  • Stay updated on industry trends: Stay informed about industry best practices, rules and regulations, emerging technologies, and trends in digitalization to ensure the organization remains competitive, innovative and compliant.
