POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Assistant Director, The Manager of Emergency Shelter Operations is responsible for managing the shift operations daily, including scheduling, crisis management, customer service, bed assignment, clothing, toiletries, and referrals. The manager will be part of the swing/grave shift rotation and will oversee all aspects of the shift in the absence of the Shift Supervisor. The Manager of Emergency Shelter Operations will insure a service model of housing first, trauma informed, and client centered. The Operations Manager will insure that services are provided with dignity and respect for all individuals. This position will ensure informational resources are available at critical times to assist in obtaining permanent housing. This role is responsible for supporting staff and is integral in supporting the agencies mission and strategic plan; working closely with the Assistant Director of Emergency Shelter Operations to continuously assess, create, and implement programs, initiatives, and Standard Operating Procedures to expand shelter services.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding the causes of homelessness.
  • Knowledge of shelter regulations, best practices, and different shelter models
  • Familiarity with available social services, resources, and referral process for guests.
  • Knowledge of local housing options and resources to help residents achieve permanent sustainable housing.
  • Understanding of employment laws, staff supervision, and conflict resolution.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates Degree in Social/Human Services or equal experience in a similar field.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in shelter operations or related field.
  • Two years of management experience. (Required)
  • Flexible schedule to work beyond regularly scheduled time or shift.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Primarily works in office environment, but will also work through the agency and off site.
  • Ability to operate and use office equipment, especially computer, keyboard and mouse.
  • Ability to continuously sit and/or stand. Ability to walk continuously if needed and climb stairs as needed.
  • May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with Supervisors and Shelter Staff to monitor efficiencies of daily operations, programming, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate ability to lead in a human services setting with a strong concentration in working with individuals with multiple challenges.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of shelter and participants in the absence of the Supervisor or as assigned.
  • Monitor participants and programmatic area for safety concerns.
  • Along with the case management team, take responsibility for proper shelter enrollment of program participants.
  • Communication and education around all program specific procedures and policies.
  • Assist guests in understanding how services are provided.
  • Keep accurate records, documentation, and all necessary statistics.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with other staff, departments, and programs to ensure a cohesive delivery of services.
  • Assist in developing procedures that ensure a safe environment for guests and staff.
  • Document incidents and make appropriate changes in unsafe situations.
  • Keep accurate records regarding payroll, staff evaluations, staff training and discipline, and guest issues.
