Johanna Foods is also a leading private label and co-pack juice and yogurt producer, manufacturing products for numerous leading retailers and brands.

JOB SUMMARY:

Manages company programs and policies to ensure that the organization complies with government, customer, and company regulatory requirements. Prepares and distributes compliance status reports to internal management and regulatory agencies. Interacts with regulatory agencies on a frequent basis and advises management of changes needed to be addressed and their potential impact. Responsible for compliance regarding product labeling and certifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of all state, federal and customer regulatory requirements across all product categories and ensure products are in compliance.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current food labeling regulations, regulatory activity and trends.
  • Attend webinars and conferences as necessary to stay up-to-date. Complete industry training sessions as needed to stay current in regulatory knowledge.
  • Participate in validating new products, customer evaluations of existing products and application support.
  • Assist in the design and lead the execution of field trials for the R&D team.
  • Review formulas for standard of identity compliance.
  • Review and consult on food labels, packaging and other forms of label copy and artwork to ensure regulatory compliance to federal regulations and policies. Provide a written report/assessment of deficiencies and compliance results. Regulations include FDA (CFR Title 21), USDA and Health Canada CFIA.
  • As necessary, communicate cross functionally regarding current and emerging food regulation.
  • Analyze label complaints and make recommendations accordingly.
  • Monitor and maintain physical and electronic document archive.
  • Evaluate the efficiency of controls and improve them continuously.
  • Assess the business’s future ventures to identify possible compliance risks.
  • Review and provide support for retail customer databases.Review the work of colleagues when necessary to identify compliance issues and provide advice or training.

    • Keep abreast of regulatory developments within or outside of the company as well as evolving best practices in compliance control.
  • Prepare reports for senior management and external regulatory bodies as appropriate.
  • Manage certifications and maintain Kosher, Organic, and Non-GMO certifications. Ensure Johanna Foods is up to date with regulations set forth by certifying bodies.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Food Science/Technology/Regulatory or other related degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Required– 1-2 years of experience in FDA/USDA regulated environmental and an understanding of the Code of Federal Regulation Title 21.
  • Preferred – 1-3 years of experience working in an industrial laboratory setting.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Detail oriented and quick learner.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and effective research and report writing skills.
  • Computer proficiency: MS Office, other related software, and email.
  • Familiarity with online databases (ProSpec, TraceGains, Hive, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and with teams; effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, balance priorities and be a self-starter.
  • Demonstrated technical learning ability, troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and quality aspects of dairy and beverage industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of the industry’s standards and regulations
