Job Description:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Director, Pharmacy Services, the Manager, Pharmacy Supply Chain provides strategic and innovative leadership in the development, implementation and management of Regional Product Services and related initiatives.
Develops business cases for pharmacy initiatives; integrates communication and management strategies including impacts to human and financial resources. Develops and implements new product services within Pharmacy and new product service processes to enhance the safe and efficient management and distribution of drug inventories.
Manages the acquisition, packaging, compounding, and delivery of non-patient specific pharmaceutical products. Maintains pharmaceutical contracts and acts as the pharmacy liaison with Island Health Logistics and Material Management and with group purchasing organizations (GPOs). Provides leadership to staff. Primary working relationships include Pharmacy staff, Finance and other key stakeholders.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Recognized degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Hospital pharmacy residency or graduate degree in related field. Ten (10) years’ recent related hospital pharmacy experience including two (2) years of direct supervisory leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education , training and experience. Current registration as a licensed pharmacist with the British Columbia College of Pharmacists.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to integrate clinical and corporate needs to ensure achievement of pharmacy service goals and objectives.
- Awareness of current pharmacy management/clinical trends and issues and potential for improvements to service delivery model.
- Ability to demonstrate project management skills and experience with business case preparation and facilitating teams.
- Strong analytical skills and an ability to prepare and present information.
- Excellent oral and written communication, motivating and influencing skills.
- Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders from different professinal backgrounds.
- Continuously seeks to develop and improve service delivery, standards and practices.
- Knowledge of hospital and pharmacy systems including new technology.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical compounding and packaging standards and technologies.
- Knowledge of inventory management techniques and medication safety standards for product packaging and labeling.
- Thorough understanding of applicable provincial and federal legal requirements for pharmaceuticals.
