About the Role
We are seeking a forward thinking and talented individual to take on the key role of Portfolio Delivery Manager across the Copper and Coal Asset Projects Portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity for a high performing professional to work with a range of senior stakeholders where your contribution will have significant impact on the business.
The role will be based either in Brisbane or in Adelaide, with frequent travel to various sites in Qld, NSW, SA to ensure safe delivery of project objectives. Reporting to the Head of Asset Projects, the Portfolio Delivery Manager will be a key participant in the Copper and Coal Project Lead Team and be responsible for the safe and predictable delivery of the capital portfolio for medium sized (US$30M to US$250M) capital projects across our Coal and Copper Assets as part of our Minerals Australia Projects team, in QLD, NSW and SA.
The role will provide leadership to a highly skilled and diverse team of projects professionals.
Empowering people and achieving project success is the key requirement of this role. The Portfolio Delivery Manager will be the driving force behind the portfolio to ensure it is delivered safely on time, and within budget. The role will develop strategies for execution, quality and consistency, lead assurance activities, and foster improvements across our delivery teams. Working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, the successful candidate will engage with Project Delivery Teams to support project execution and work with various functions, including Safety, Commercial, Project Controls, Engineering and Risk & Assurance, to achieve project objectives.
Accountabilities

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide leadership to teams throughout the project lifecycle, focused on the governance and execution of construction strategies, standards / frameworks and integration and interface management.
  • Monitors and manages portfolio performance, identifies critical activities, monitors the project plan/schedule and drives continuous improvement initiatives to deliver the capital portfolio in line with safety standards, requirements, budget and scope.
  • Identifies and assesses risks, makes risk informed decisions, uses BHP’s risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
  • Maintains oversight to ensure that projects are executed in compliance with both internal and external governance processes and Our Requirements.
  • Collaborates with Assets to manage the effective transition of projects into Operations.
  • Provide support for early delivery inputs to projects in early development phases.
  • Lead the creation of an environment in which lessons learned and external best practices are part of the operational processes and identify capital efficiency initiatives and productivity improvements.
  • Implement positive communication and cultural processes to support project and operational outcomes.
  • Ensures creation of an environment in which internal lessons learned and external best practices are part of the operational processes and manages the measurement and continuous improvement of performance, recommending any changes required to identify capital efficiency initiatives and productivity improvements.
  • Working in a proactive business culture with a supportive management structure, and leveraging off the successful candidate extensive experience, the role will have the chance to promote business excellence through the delivery team and make full use of your broad range of skills in the areas of continuous improvement, technical knowledge, business acumen and communication.

About You
You will have significant Project Management experience, preferably via delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary investments and management of large teams, with tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a trade qualification with relevant experience in Project Management; supplementary MBA or similar commercial qualifications preferred but not essential.
With previous experience in a similar senior roles you will have managed and developed teams and be confident in working within a complex environment. Leadership role within a broad portfolio management exposure (>$500mil/y) is highly desirable.
As an experienced professional with a passion for guiding, developing and influencing teams and individual team members through mentoring and coaching you will bring strong leadership capabilities with a demonstrated ability to lead a team that delivers high performance.
