D&E Department
The Development & Engineering (D&E) team drives the technology, innovation, and new development of data center infrastructure across Vantage’s companywide portfolio. D&E evaluates new sites, including procurement and delivery of utility power, drives cost and scheduling in line with corporate goals and serves as subject matter experts across the entire project lifecycle from concept through commissioning. The team collaborates with Sales, Operations, and management along the way. D&E also works hand in hand with the Construction team to come up with a vertically integrated design and ensures new and existing standards and designs are executed effectively. One thing that distinguishes Vantage is that our technical staff are given the responsibility and authority to directly drive tangible results. Our team can align long-term operational sustainability with value engineering and cost metrics to deliver products aligned with corporate goals. Position Overview
Vantage is looking for a Power Manager to manage and secure by leading the technical aspect (being the SME for power) of power connection agreement(s), energy agreement(s), power infrastructure and overall power coordination of multiple buildings/campuses issued by utilities and energy suppliers. Supports the on-time and in-budget delivery of necessary agreements in coordination with utility for both new and existing data center campuses. In-line with the contracted customer power on dates. This position is part of the team responsible for a single key function in the Vantage D&E team, namely, power and energy. This position will support all activities (including utility relationship, regulations and coordination) by acting as a SME to obtain the necessary (HV/MV) utility supplies at project commencement (utility confirmation at early due diligence) and thereafter manage all activities required to obtain and execute on the formal connection agreement(s) and other necessary agreements required to legally acquire and use power. Constant communication with the utility, GC/OEMs, VDC (Vantage Data Centres) Design/NSD/Cons/Ops/ Energy team and other internal/external subject matter experts (SME’s) will be required to keep pace with Vantage’s strategic power acquisition (banking) goals, including enhancing Vantage’s product and service offering wherever possible.

Essential Job Functions

  • Experience of local grid and network operators, knowledge and experience of grid/ network code requirements, and regulatory requirements related to power distribution and supply.
  • Experience of successfully acquiring and managing utility connection agreements, usage agreements, metering agreements, and energy supply agreements necessary for power operations.
  • Full understanding and management of all agreements and contracts required to successfully deliver power on-site and be able to use it by successfully delivering necessary usage and energy supply agreements to site.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with utility providers to efficiently obtain necessary agreements, ensure compliance with specifications, and manage ongoing communication and interactions.
  • Oversee the deployment of utility and VDC (Vantage Data Centers) infrastructure required to deliver power to project sites, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to technical requirements.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for power-related matters, effectively coordinating and communicating with utility, GC/OEMs VDC SME’s and DE team and wider project stakeholders involved in power operations.
  • Liaise with VDC design and construction teams to provide guidance and recommendations ensuring alignment with power requirements and critical success factors.
  • Understand and manage the critical path for power delivery, including planning and permitting activities, to ensure prompt and efficient power availability on-site.
  • Manage power availability issues with utility providers and implement alternative power solutions when necessary to ensure uninterrupted operations to our VDC site.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate power-related risks, maintain a comprehensive register of changes, and update project risk registers accordingly.
  • Manage all subcontracting activities related to power, including connection agreements, design contracts, and regulatory compliance.
  • Engage with regional projects to identify common risks, share lessons learned, and drive continuous improvement in power management practices.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards related to power operations and collaborate with energy and sustainability teams to optimize operational efficiency and meet sustainability requirements.
  • Broad understanding of power consumption tariffs from a public and private perspective desirable to inform business models.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with utility providers to efficiently obtain the necessary connection agreements of power and fulfill all the required specifications outlined by the utility.
  • Working knowledge of requirements, timescales and technical inputs required along with support from consultant teams and/ or general contractors.
  • Coordinate and review the baseline designs of HV Substation and communicate necessary modifications in line with the stakeholders.
  • Manage and drive value engineering initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage key documents like contracts, agreements and power milestones in the IMS.
  • Manage and track the status of all necessary power connections, power infrastructure, energy agreements.
  • Lead internal and external meetings to drive the power delivery, power contracts etc.
  • Manage, and report each project’s power procurement strategy.
  • Ensure collaborative team efforts and continuous improvement with peers across Vantage to capture risks, issues, value engineering opportunities, and lessons learned.
  • Collaborate with the Development Manager to define critical success factors for the project, specifically focusing on power/electrical aspects.
  • Drive the critical path, including planning and permitting activities, ensuring alignment with project power goals.
  • Manage power with the consulting team to ensure successful project execution.
  • Ensure compliance to Vantage standards and Customer leases.
  • Work with the energy & sustainability teams to ensure we operate as efficiently & as effectively as possible and in-line with any utility and regional sustainability requirements.
  • Oversee, streamline and coordinate with the Ops/Energy team.

Duties

  • Keep up to date with utility and energy legislations.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Proven experience of working with the local utilities and energy service providers.
  • Experience of successfully acquiring utility connection agreements, usage agreements, metering agreements, energy supply agreements, and HV/MV infrastructure delivery etc.
  • Experience of successful on-time delivery of Power from the local utilities on-site.
  • Experience of working as a project manager in MV to EHV systems will be given high preference.
  • Good understanding of electrical as well as knowledge of the energy use of organizations, with a recognized degree or equivalent (background in electrical/power engineering preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years experience in power delivery with utility and power infrastructure design and management.
  • Project management experience and necessary certification like PMP or Prince2.
  • Knowledge of the development process and key considerations from a power infrastructure perspective.
  • Strong IT skills: ability to use multiple communication tools and packages essential.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills at all levels of the organization and with other stakeholders and third parties such as suppliers.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead external teams with excellent relationship-building skills and collaborative work.
  • Provide a high level of commitment to customer service with co-workers and stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and self-directed; able to work in a variety of circumstances, e.g.: remotely, while traveling, across multiple time zones, cross-functionally, by project, etc.
  • This position requires an organized individual with the capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure, and to prioritize work effort, all with minimal supervision.
  • National and international travel will be required on a regular basis
