The Job At-A-Glance:
Q2 is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Engineering Manager to join our Helix product that is focused on building embed personalized financial experiences. The Software Manager will lead and manage a small team of technical developers focused on Data Engineering while also actively contributing as a product and project manager. This position requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership and communication skills, and the ability to balance managerial responsibilities with hands-on technical work.
A Typical Day:
- Lead and manage a team of 8 technical developers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure high-quality work and professional growth.
- Experience preferred within a Data Engineering environment
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, promoting knowledge sharing, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.
- Prioritize and plan team backlogs and work with the team, architects and other stakeholders to ensure technical requirements are clear and understood by the team.
- Promote adherence to coding standards and best practices.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks and obstacles, proactively finding solutions and ensuring project timelines and deliverables are met.
- Act as a liaison between the technical team and senior management, effectively communicating project updates, risks, and accomplishments.
- Collaborate with HR in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new team members, ensuring the team has the necessary skills and resources to meet project demands.
- Participate/co-lead sprint planning, retrospective and daily scrum meetings
- Work closely with direct reports as well as other engineering teams and other teams within the business.
- Perform regular 1 on 1 sessions with direct reports and build a culture of giving and receiving feedback.
- Effectively coach/manage remote employees.
- Participate in on-call rotation, to assist on call developers during after hours incidents
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 6 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with 4+ years of experience.
- Typically requires 1-2 years managing and developing employees
- Experience in a business interfacing role required
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Full Stack Development, Microsoft Technologies
- Working experience with Data Platforms & Engineering Technologies (e.g. Snowflake, DBT, Airflow, Databases, or Equivalent)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure Cloud (IAAS)
- Experience in DevOps
- Working Knowledge around JSON-based, RESTful APIs
At least 2 years of experience in managing teams, as well as large-scale and complex programs and projects
- Knowledge and experience in the banking industry preferred
- Experience integrating applications with core banking platforms desired
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to remain patient with non-technical customers
- Experience managing teams in a multi-team/high scale product environment preferred
- Appetite to expand data analytics using ML/AI concept desired
