Description:

Overview:
The Manager, Systems Engineering supervises the production activities of the Institute’s enterprise operations infrastructure, including file servers, disaster recovery, remote access strategy, endpoint security, mobile device management, and cloud services. In addition to overseeing these activities, the Manager, Systems Engineering oversees the processes and personnel management of the Engineering team.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of the Institute’s enterprise system architecture, both physical and virtual.
  • Promote efficient operations and effective use of existing systems by the Institute user community.
  • Provide backup for the responsibilities of the Director, Enterprise Services as well as the members of the Engineering team.
  • Supervise all assigned staff, to include ensuring compliance with departmental and organizational policies and procedures, performance management, goal setting, progressive discipline, work/leave schedules, day-to-day workplace interventions, and problem resolution.
  • Oversee day-to-day operational availability of enterprise systems/servers. Monitor production, troubleshoots issues, and implements solutions. Delegate tasks to staff for resolving trouble tickets created by helpdesk.
  • Oversee the administration and development of department servers, including server security and disaster recoverability.
  • Oversee planning of system upgrades, installation, and maintenance.
  • Assign, direct, and evaluate the work of the Systems Engineering team with the implementation and completion of system upgrade, installation, and maintenance tasks.
  • Plan and organize special projects by evaluating project needs and leveraging the appropriate use of resources including hardware, software, vendors, and staff to accomplish objectives.
  • Foster and maintain interdepartmental communications in both the user community and within Information Systems in order to ensure successful project completion.
  • Coordinate the assignment of work with various equipment, vendors, and staff to achieve common goals.
  • Provide information and recommendations on technology advancements, code upgrades, and emerging technologies such as cloud resources that will improve the performance and stability of the Institute’s systems.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Enterprise Services to plan, design, schedule, and implement departmental goals to support the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Responsible for monitoring and producing reports related to system licensing, storage space, disaster recovery, user account auditing
  • Assists in developing policies and procedures and the directions for growth of the Information Systems department.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ITIL certification preferred
  • VMWare certification preferred
  • MCSE certification preferred
  • LINUX certification preferred.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences or related field required.
  • Five years of relevant experience beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree at the discretion of the department
