Description:

Act as the competent person responsible for Moving and handling and assist the trust in meeting its legal obligations under health and safety legislation Take overall responsibility for the provision of appropriate moving and handling training to all employees of the Trust. Ensure that appropriate moving and handling training is in place to meet the needs of the various clinical and non-clinical services to assist the Trust in demonstrating its compliance with the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, as amended, and to protect the health and wellbeing of staff, patients and other service users Be responsible for operational management of the moving and handling work stream including coordination of manual handling trainers Assess training needs and be responsible for planning, delivery, assessment and evaluation of all types and levels of the full range of Manual Handling courses across the Integrated Care Foundation Trust (ICFT) as per CSFT and National Back exchange guidelines Develop moving and handling policies and procedures that support legal requirement, national programmes and local initiatives Undertake musculoskeletal disorder, Display screen equipment and moving and handling risk assessment and provide where appropriate advice and instruction to staff, Occupational Health and Trust managers and lead on the protection and enhancement of staff musculoskeletal health Upon referral from Occupational Health, Departmental Managers and ward based staff, assess patients and service users with complex moving and handling needs, providing advice, recommendations and equipment as appropriate Ensure teaching practice and clinical techniques employed and demonstrated by you comply with current good practice, organisational, regulatory, professional policies, protocols and guidance. Ensure that you signpost staff to appropriate training and assessment and that clinical and non-clinical staff maintain safe and correct moving and handling techniques. Report to the Health & Safety regarding the delivery of moving & handling services Develop, implement, monitor and manage moving and handling policies and operating procedures to ensure the Trust meets moving and handling compliance relating to Health & Safety Executive (HSE), Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF), National Health Service Litigation Authority (NHSLA), and Commission for Quality and Care (CQC) requirements Key stakeholder for the commissioning and procurement of manual handling equipment and accessories for the Trust, including the subject matter expert advisor for selecting suppliers taking into account cost, quality, delivery time and reliability Exercise professional integrity and sound clinical decision making particularly when challenging colleagues regarding the quality of services provided.
Monitor and measure moving and handling competencies within Trust services against national standards Establish professional relationships at all levels of the organisation, and work closely with all Occupational Health Personnel, Human Resources, Health and Safety, Learning & Development and Clinical Engineering. Communicate and liaise with external organisation, i.e. HSE, other NHS/non NHS bodies, agencies, contractors, consultants and companies, as needed. Deliver presentations at meetings, briefings, steering groups, and other events to raise awareness of the moving and handling strategy.
Advise all wards and departments as regards the provision for all aspects of Moving and Handling and communicate and act as an intermediary between staff and patients where necessary Through assessment be able to direct clinical staff with decision making supported by best practise and legislation, when developing care packages for patients in hospital and in preparation for discharge Undertake appropriate audits to measure the quality of the moving and handling service work streams and training standards Ensure curricula, syllabus and training materials are regularly updated in line with best practice and in line with different learning styles. Develop innovative ways of teaching and enhancing the learning environment for staff Develop the use of alternative or enhanced methods of training delivery via a range of available media Optimise ward/locality based education in the delivery of training using experiential learning and simulation where possible Foster an integrated approach to training and shared learning across both the education service and multi-disciplinary team. Ensure a blended learning approach to training including classroom training, training in situ, e-learning and virtual teaching dependent on the needs of the organisation, individual service and clinician. Responsible for ensuring appropriate training models and consumables are provided as per training requirements and for the maintenance of specialist equipment within the clinical training and simulation rooms Provide direction to the administrative team who coordinate and organise Manual Handling and clinical training courses and bookings Provide cross cover for Adult and Paediatric Basic Life Support in the absence of other education team members.
