Description:

Clair Global’s Production team is growing and is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join the team. The Manufacturing Engineer integrates manufacturing expertise with product development know-how and a passion for data quality to ensure that Clair Global products are manufactured successfully, with high quality, while utilizing cutting edge manufacturing technologies, tools, and documentation standards. The Manufacturing Engineer interfaces regularly with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality Control, and more to provide guidance and expertise, while being mindful of those manufacturing the products to ensure they are put in prime position to produce quality goods. They participate actively in the development of new products while remaining vigilant in keeping documentation for existing products current and reliable.

  • A champion for the importance of documentation accuracy and rigor.
  • One who is willing and capable of mediating product design disputes and disagreements between engineering and manufacturing while representing the interests of the product rather than those of either team.
  • A mature individual who recognizes it is more important to achieve the right outcome than it is to be proven correct in any given debate.

QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the essential functions of this job while exercising independent judgment and discretion.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Proficiency in CAD or modeling software, such as Solidworks, Pro-Engineer / Creo, AutoCAD, or similar
  • Expertise as a change agent in PLM software such as Windchill, Agile Advantage, or similar.
  • Experience with wood construction, paint, metal work, plastics, and wiring are desirable.
  • Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement experience preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 10+ years of experience in product manufacturing
  • 6+ years of experience in product development or product engineering

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing designs for their ability to be manufactured safely, with quality, and while achieving high first-pass yield and a mindfulness for cost.
  • Acting as the bridge between engineering and manufacturing during the product development process, driving discussions and negotiations to ensure that changes required for manufacturability are incorporated as needed while preserving the intent of the design.
  • Ensuring that product documentation is accurate and up-to-date, inclusive of part drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials.
  • Implementing and introducing the manufacturing and engineering teams to new manufacturing techniques, processes, fixtures, materials, tools, and technologies that can be used to improve product capabilities, performance, quality, or cost.
  • Defining and enforcing documentation standards for drawings and bills of materials.

Duties include:

  • Participating in new product development meetings, design reviews, and prototyping activities.
  • Interacting directly with manufacturing supervisors and personnel to identify documentation errors and then own the process of correcting them.
  • Proactively reviewing part drawings, bills of material, and other documentation for accuracy and comparing to activity taking place on the manufacturing floor. Discovering the root cause of differences and driving them to resolution.
  • Identifying substitute components and materials to address shortages or part obsolescence.
  • Participating in industry conferences, training, and education to remain informed of new technologies and tools that can assist with product manufacturing.
  • Training manufacturing and engineering personnel on assembly and testing techniques.
