POSITION SUMMARY

Great opportunity to join our Manufacturing & Supply Chain team at J. J. Keller as a Manufacturing Engineer! This is a NEW, critical position that will play a key role in helping us to expand into OEM products through product development and manufacturing optimization. This individual contributor role will use manufacturing engineering and project management skills to optimize product designs for manufacturability, develop new manufacturing processes, and conduct continuous improvement of existing manufacturing processes.
This position will be located on-site at our Neenah Corporate Headquarters and will have the opportunity to occasionally work from home.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline with 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience developing new manufacturing processes and the startup of new product manufacturing.
  • Prior experience using 3D modeling design tools, SolidWorks preferred.
  • Experience selecting and commissioning capital equipment including automated systems.
  • Experience in industrial printing, sheet metal fabrication, or plastic injection molding preferred.
  • Experience applying Lean, Six Sigma, or project management principals.

  • Possess a continuous improvement outlook and suggest, promote, and champion product and process changes.
  • Advanced problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to critically review and interpret technical documentation.
  • Organized to handle multiple projects and to meet key deadlines while managing changing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate new and innovative manufacturing concepts in simple terms.
  • Available to work onsite a minimum of 3 days per week.
  • Ability to travel on an occasional basis (<10%).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment, but may involve exposure to high speed printing presses and other machinery. Work involves operation of personal computer equipment for extended periods of time.
Occasional travel to vendor sites and/or industry and training events may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Applies engineering principles to design, prototype, test, evaluate, and implement manufacturing processes in collaboration with the cross functional business unit team.
  • Continuously improves manufacturing processes for new and existing products.
  • Creates or revises design models, drawings, bill of materials, documents, and test plans to ensure products are optimized for manufacturability.
  • Creates and maintains process work instructions, shop drawings, fixture designs, and other technical documentation.
  • Learns to operate and maintain new equipment and conducts train-the-trainer sessions with lead operators and mechanics.
  • Conducts prototype and first article testing for internally and externally manufactured products.
  • Collaborates with operations and maintenance personnel to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems in production.
  • Conducts research, data collection, and statistical analysis to be used for continuous improvement and decision making.
  • Creates capital expenditure budgets consistent with business unit five-year roadmap.
  • Collaborates with suppliers on selection and implementation of capital equipment.
  • Collaborates with sourcing personnel to identify and qualify domestic and international manufacturing partners.
  • Develops manufacturing engineering project plans that achieve schedule, performance, and cost objectives.
  • Collaborates with maintenance and operations staff on creating and approving plant layouts.
  • Ensures that the company’s manufacturing processes comply with applicable government laws and regulations.
  • Collaborates with quality control staff to ensure best practices and adherence to quality standard certifications.
