JOB DESCRIPTION

Working as an Apprentice for our Microbiology Division (MBD), within the Specialty Diagnostics Group, you’ll play an active part in helping us to achieve our mission to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. The Microbiology Division discovers microbiological solutions for the diagnosis of infectious disease and detection of bacterial contamination. We serve public health, clinical laboratories, food companies, environmental screening and pharmaceutical laboratories with a portfolio of products that include culture media, antimicrobial susceptibility testing solutions and best-in-class molecular solutions for food safety testing. We’re seeking a hard-working individual looking to start building a strong Engineering career within a global organisation that enables individuals to reach their best through continuous challenges and expansive opportunities. The successful candidate will work within the Manufacturing Engineering team as an Engineer Apprentice providing ‘hands on’ support to Manufacturing, Facilities/Utilities and Lab Functions whilst adhering to the site Safety and Quality Procedures.
Responsibilities:
The tasks and duties will expand throughout the Four-year apprenticeship programme with the successful candidate being competent and equipped to carry out the following responsibilities on completion.
Provide site electrical / mechanical support for Manufacturing, Facility/Utilities and Labs for repairs and maintenance of all equipment types.
Routine instrumentation calibration and adjustment across the facility, whilst maintaining validated specifications and limits.
Where required, support specialised contractors in carrying out routine and reactive maintenance tasks.
Fix faults and failures in processing equipment including identification of corrective actions linked to unplanned engineering breakdowns impacting safety, service and product quality.
Repair of faulty manufacturing, facilities and lab machinery and equipment throughout the site as required including water processing, generation and effluent systems.
Alignment to site spare parts and materials control, ensuring issuance and new supply information is accurate.
Full participation and promotion of the site Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs including PUWER, risk and manual handling assessments and investigations.
Ensure that all interactions and engagements are carried out with the highest ethical and professional standards and that all work is accomplished with quality and in accordance site policies and procedures.
Participate in Practical Process Improvement (PPI) projects across the business as required, playing an active role and supporting analysis requirements.
Adhere to and demonstrate the company’s 4i Values (intensity, integrity, innovation and involvement) always.
