Description:

Overview:
Plans, directs, and coordinates all manufacturing engineering activities in component manufacturing. Provides leadership in planning, implementing, maintaining, and identifying value added manufacturing processes and materials. Member of the senior plant management team providing strong managerial, organizational, analytical, and communication skills with a hands-on approach to problem solving.

Qualifications:

  • Requires a BS in Engineering and 5 years of experience as a manufacturing engineer, which includes 2 years of managing or supervising exempt and non-exempt employees, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient with Design of Experiments, Statistical Process Control, Project Planning, Process Engineering, ISO 9001 or similar program.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, project management, and computer aided design software.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write technical and project reports, business correspondence and process documentation.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, peers, clients, customers and the general public

Responsibilities:

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages the development, evaluation, and implementation of engineering projects to improve quality, reduce cost, and increase manufacturing capacity.
  • Establishes priorities of engineering projects based on business needs and overall strategy. Manages the implementation of projects utilizing project planning and reporting techniques such as Gantt charting.
  • Manages the analysis and planning of manufacturing equipment utilization, space requirements, workflow, designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Works with other members of plant operations to design, modify, and recommend equipment changes including installation of equipment.
  • Works with the Quality Assurance Manager and Manufacturing Manager to resolve customer issues related to meeting product specifications or any other problems identified by the customer.
  • Utilizes management by objectives or similar methods to establish personal and development goals for members of manufacturing engineering.
  • Manages the continuous improvement program which includes the assessment, implementation, and evaluation of current products being manufactured.
  • Utilizes lean techniques to optimize efficiency of manufacturing processes.
  • Arranges for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Participates in strategic planning and development of capital expenditures budget.
  • Ensures that machines, tooling, equipment, or processes comply with Federal, State and Local safety and environmental regulations. Provides technical leadership in loss prevention.Assures that manufacturing engineering personnel understand and apply statistical methods such as design of experiments, SPC, etc.
  • Troubleshoot problems and define preventative / corrective actions arising from internal (yield / non-conformance monitoring) and external (customer complaints and RMAs) sources.
  • Document tasks including creation (or delegation) of required procedures, inspection protocols, work instructions process control documents (Flow Chart, Control Plan, pFMEA, FAI, etc.), and other documentation as necessary in conjunction with applicable team members.
  • Document verification / validation (IQ, OQ, PQ) activities including creation or delegation to team.
  • Assures that all manufacturing engineering activities and programs comply with ISO 9001, or other similar system.

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this function.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • active participant on the management team to solve cross-functional problems, communicate clearly and consistently with other members and employees, and support goals and objectives of the business.
