Position Title: Manufacturing Engineering Mgr. Sr.

The Engineering Manager is the top engineering position of an operating unit. Plans, directs, coordinates, and participates in all phases of design, manufacturing, and related engineering used in an operating unit. Participates with the Production Manager to produce complex mechanical and electromechanical products, concentrating on engineering design, processes, and systems. Organizes, trains, supervises, and coordinates a diverse range of activities around conversion of design to fabrication and production, concentrating on quality, utility, and cost-reduction.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • The position is recognized as the expert of several key processes within the Division.
  • Reviews product requirements and evaluates and determines all manufacturing processes for cost effectiveness and feasibility, during pre-production design phase and after engineering releases to manufacturing.
  • In conjunction with the Manufacturing Manager, determines and implements manufacturing practices and cost-reduction projects and processes.
  • Directs the activities of all manufacturing process engineering, tooling design, quality engineering, including all technical support. Directs design engineering related to the division’s product lines.
  • Participates in the research and development of new products and enhancements. Establishes prototype manufacturing practices, evaluating efficiency, cost, and quality.
  • Directs drafting department in preparation of drawings, procedures, sketches, etc., necessary for the development of new products and product enhancements.
  • Participates with manufacturing in the development of processes and molds necessary to produce parts and components.
  • Directs and conducts a continuous search of new materials, processes, and procedures to enhance and improve the product line.
  • Coordinates all engineering releases and change notices relative to design, manufacturing, specifications, standards, and follow-up to problems with existing products.
  • Directs, with the help of tooling leadership, the construction of all tooling; assures accuracy and timeliness.
  • Along with the Manufacturing Manager and through the Maintenance Supervisor, directs all programs and activities of the Maintenance Department.
  • Ensures the company’s safety efforts comply with outside regulatory agencies such as OSHA, EPA, insurance carriers, etc.; ensures conformity to internal safety philosophies and practices as well.
  • Oversees and coordinates the activities of outside contractors, internal project leaders, and others who are involved with construction of plant expansions or alterations.
  • Directs, coordinates, and researches and analyzes engineering sketches, product specifications, and internal and customer design proposals to determine feasibility of significant designs or enhancements. Establishes schedules, staffing requirements, time lines, and a budget for complex projects involving other teams and customers.
  • Initiates design proposals, working with sales, manufacturing, and customers. Innovates variations to proposals, assigning follow-up work to team members.
  • Supervises Engineers and Designers and/or designs products or systems such as (but not limited to) structural members, chassis, power transmission systems, hydraulic systems, heat transfer, instruments, controls, components, tooling, and associated equipment.
  • Supervises and coordinates with engineers or design drafters, production of the detailed design drawing packages and related specifications. Coordinates and develops detailed multi-view drawings of products and subassemblies. Checks drawings for accuracy.
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates with team members in sales, testing, manufacturing, and materials to convert designs and modifications to production. Works with research and development to develop prototypes and conduct tests. Coordinates with manufacturing, maintenance, and materials to optimize production.
  • Supervises writing of all engineering documentation associated with assigned projects, including product manuals and bills-of-materials. Checks the work of others for accuracy and clarity.
  • Facilitates and participates in quality improvement activities. Continually researches new materials to enhance products and/or reduce cost.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Engineering Technology, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Requires over eight years of experience designing equipment and components that encompass mechanical, electro- mechanical, bill-of-materials, and project planning and leadership.
  • Alternatively, a Masters degree and five years of experience will be considered.
  • Requires experience and skill in AutoCAD, Pro-E, SolidWorks, spreadsheets, word processing, project management, Algor, Ansys, MathCAD, or the equivalent in specialized software.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Requires advanced professional knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of mechanical engineering.
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of Terex AWP and related automotive, construction, or material handling products.
  • Requires in-depth knowledge of Terex AWP manufacturing and other processes related to product design.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of computer-aided-design and computer-aided-engineering programs.
  • Requires sufficient human relations skill to convey technical engineering concepts to others; to “sell” product ideas and innovations; to facilitate, resolve confrontation, and manage the performance a large and diverse group of professional, trades, and technical employees; and to work cooperatively with internal and external customers.
  • Requires technical writing skills sufficient to prepare product specifications, test, and process documentation.
  • Requires advanced mathematics skills. Requires strong business acumen.

Abilities

  • Requires the ability to perform all the responsibilities of the position.
  • Requires the ability to read mechanical and electrical schematics, blueprints.
  • Requires the ability to manage and review performance.
  • Requires the ability to organize a complete engineering function for an operating unit.
  • Requires the ability to use AutoCAD, Pro-E, SolidWorks or equivalent engineering software.
  • Requires the ability to conduct mathematical exercises using physics, algebra, analytic geometry, and statistical analysis.
  • Requires the ability to organize and sequence work associated with complex designs, converting them into production action plans.
  • Requires the ability to perform and lead within the principles of Lean Manufacturing, Just-in-Time, and Total Quality Management.

Physical Abilities

  • Requires sufficient ambulatory ability to walk to production locations, to stand for extended periods of time, and to bend and stoop for limited periods of time.
  • Requires lifting of lightweight objects on an infrequent basis.
  • Requires sufficient arm-hand-eye coordination to operate a computer keyboard and pointing devises at a proficient level.
  • Requires visual acuity to create three-dimensional drawings.
  • Requires verbal and auditory ability sufficient to read word and letters and carry on conversations with others.

The compensation for this position is $126,386 - $158,000 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc.
