Boeing has an exciting opportunity, through our IAM/Boeing Joint Apprenticeship Program, for Manufacturing Machinist Apprenticeship in the Puget Sound region in Washington State!
This 4-year apprenticeship is 8,000 hours in length (7,360 on-the-job hours and 640 school hours) and includes paid on-the-job training and unpaid classroom education. The first 20% of the on-the-job training is a probationary period. Apprentices attend school for a minimum 144 unpaid hours per school year (four hours each week) at the South Seattle College Georgetown Apprenticeship and Education Center. Apprentice wages are defined in Article 17 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement with International Association of Machinists District 751 and The Boeing Company. Apprentices advance one wage progression step for every 1000 apprenticeship on the job training hours until completion. Graduates are placed in the target job at the maximum rate and receive a Journey-worker Certificate and Card - recognized worldwide.

Apprentices will learn the following tasks to become proficient as a Journey level graduate of the program:

  • Set up and operate various conventional and numerical control machine tools to fabricate close tolerance, high quality parts from metals, plastics, and composite materials, often in a cellular manufacturing environment.
  • In addition to machine training, the Manufacturing Machinist apprenticeship includes use of precision measuring tools, trade related bench work, inspection, numerical machine programming, heat treat, layout operations, tool grinding, and machine related processes.

THIS POSITION MUST MEET EXPORT CONTROL COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS, THEREFORE A “US PERSON” AS DEFINED BY 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 IS REQUIRED. “US PERSON” INCLUDES US CITIZEN, LAWFUL PERMANENT RESIDENT, REFUGEE, OR ASYLEE

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience)

  • Understanding of intermediate algebra
  • Ability to understand and express yourself in English
  • Basic Blueprint Reading
  • Basic Precision Measuring Tools
  • Basic Milling Machine operation
  • Basic Lathe operation

Math and English requirements to be verified by assessment or equivalent course completion in Intermediate Algebra or better, taken within the last 5 years and English 90 or better.
All assessments and/or courses must be completed prior to submitting your application. Assessments taken for English and/or math are required to show both the assessment score and the course placement results (course number and course title) for that score.

This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement.
