Description:
MARINE ENGINEER
This opportunity is a permanent, full-time role (comprising 40 hours a week) with a direct reporting line to both the vessel’s Captain and its owner or their assigned representative. The work entails hands-on responsibilities aboard an ocean-going pleasure yacht, stationed at its home moorage in Vancouver, British Columbia, or on its voyages to various destinations and when the vessel’s docked. The role centres around the operation and maintenance of the state-of-the-art propulsion, mechanical, power generation, and control systems. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in applying logical diagnostic techniques, managing projects efficiently, and delivering precise progress updates and cost reports.
Duties include:
- Operate and repair propulsion gas turbine and diesel engines and associated systems, including gearing and shafting;
- Operate and repair generators and power distribution systems, including casualty power and electronic machinery control systems
- Operate and repair hydraulic equipment and systems and fuel and other liquid management systems;
- Maintain and repair fitted and portable damage control and firefighting equipment;
- Operate and repair refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation equipment;
- Prepare technical specifications, assessments and tender documents for marine work packages;
- Manage project scope, schedule and budget of installation, upgrades and repairs;
- On call 24/7 for emergencies and health and safety issues; and
- Strong quality management orientation.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of maintaining, diagnosing/troubleshooting and repairing various mechanical devices and engines, including marine devices/engines
- Minimum of 5 years working on a pleasure yacht as sole engineer
- Strong interpersonal skills positive and team oriented
- Fluent in English with excellent written and oral communication
- Familiarity with marine design codes and standards
- Eligibility to work in Canada required
Education:
- Completion of secondary school
- Post-secondary education (college or equivalent) in mechanics or engineering
- STCW basic certificates as a minimum (Standards Training Certification & Watch)
- Seafarer’s Medical certificate
- Any other Marine certificates are an asset
