Description:
SKILLS
- A minimum Master <45m Near Coastal Certificate of Competency or equivalent
- A Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP) or equivalent
- Current statements of attainment in Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) validity) and Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (HLTAID009)
- A current AMSA Medical applicable to your Certificate of Competency
- A valid MSIC or ‘Job Ready’ MSIC Application (or proof of ability to obtain)
- Prior towage experience would be highly advantageous
- A detailed knowledge of legislation that applies to the towage industry
- A commitment to leadership, and the ability to work as part of a team and build excellent working relationships with external customers
- Ability to work under pressure, particularly in emergency situations
- Attention to detail and ability to effectively prioritise tasks
- Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written
- Good problem-solving and fault-finding skills

Responsibilities:
- Taking command of the tug and its crew
- Act as tug manager and coordinate the attendance of crew as required for operations, the provision of stores, and ensuring readiness for operations
- Compliance with policies and procedures authorised by Svitzer and consistent with statutory obligations including quality assurance and ISM procedures
- Managing crew discipline, dealing with issues as appropriate and escalating to local management where required
- Supervision and assistance with tug maintenance as necessary
- Preparation of operational reports as required
- Induction training of visitors, employees, and other authorised personnel
- Leading and motivating the vessel crew on familiarisation and compliance with the safety management system
- Participation in safety training and operational improvement exercises
- Compliance with roster arrangements and standing orders
- Participation in skills and competency training including the training of other crew members, and trainees
