Description:

SKILLS

  • A minimum Master <45m Near Coastal Certificate of Competency or equivalent
  • A Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP) or equivalent
  • Current statements of attainment in Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) validity) and Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (HLTAID009)
  • A current AMSA Medical applicable to your Certificate of Competency
  • A valid MSIC or ‘Job Ready’ MSIC Application (or proof of ability to obtain)
  • Prior towage experience would be highly advantageous
  • A detailed knowledge of legislation that applies to the towage industry
  • A commitment to leadership, and the ability to work as part of a team and build excellent working relationships with external customers
  • Ability to work under pressure, particularly in emergency situations
  • Attention to detail and ability to effectively prioritise tasks
  • Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written
  • Good problem-solving and fault-finding skills
  • The right to live and work in Australia

Responsibilities:

  • Taking command of the tug and its crew
  • Act as tug manager and coordinate the attendance of crew as required for operations, the provision of stores, and ensuring readiness for operations
  • Compliance with policies and procedures authorised by Svitzer and consistent with statutory obligations including quality assurance and ISM procedures
  • Managing crew discipline, dealing with issues as appropriate and escalating to local management where required
  • Supervision and assistance with tug maintenance as necessary
  • Preparation of operational reports as required
  • Induction training of visitors, employees, and other authorised personnel
  • Leading and motivating the vessel crew on familiarisation and compliance with the safety management system
  • Participation in safety training and operational improvement exercises
  • Compliance with roster arrangements and standing orders
  • Participation in skills and competency training including the training of other crew members, and trainees
