MASTER STUDENT IN THE FIELD OF GUST LOADS & AEROELASTICS (D/F/M)

This job will give you the opportunity to work internationally with several internal flight physics departments and with teams located in Europe and India.

ABOUT US

We are a team of 17 multicultural and passionate engineers who perform the gust calculations for overall aircraft design for all aircraft types. Our team is involved from a very early design stage until certification and also in-service support. We are responsible for running build model activities such as finite element modeling, creating mass and aerodynamics models. We perform gust loads calculation, including failure cases of e.g. flight controls, and deliver to internal interfaces. On top, we are deeply involved in research and technology aspects with new aircraft configuration assessments, model based system engineering, automation and machine learning.

DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enrolled full-time student (d/f/m) in the area of aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, mathematics or an equivalent field of study.
  • You are looking for a Master thesis final appointment of 6 months in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • You have a basic understanding of machine learning techniques.
  • You have knowledge in Finite Element Modeling.
  • You have knowledge in coding using Python and/or Matlab.
  • You bring basic knowledge in overall aircraft design and basic competencies in flight loads calculation and flight mechanics.
  • You are passionate to understand physical and mathematical aspects and to use your engineering judgment.
  • If you are familiar with tools like MSC.NASTRAN or ALTAIR HyperWorks, this is beneficial.
  • You are a highly motivated, proactive and open-minded person with a great sense of initiative.
  • You are keen to deepen your technical knowledge while enjoying working in a multicultural team.
  • Your English is at a negotiating level whereas German language skills would be beneficial.

Responsibilities:

During this six months Master thesis the candidate will develop a method to implement modal damping allocation. The student will develop machine learning techniques in order to allocate Ground Vibration Test damping to a theoretical aeroelastic model. The student will compare different modal damping allocation techniques based on equations or based on machine learning.
You will contribute to:
Optimize the global design of Airbus products during the concept phases
Build a machine learning model to allocate modal damping
Actively support us as a new member of our team on our journey
