ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

H&S Heat Treating is looking for a full-time Material Science/Heat Treat Engineer based in Port Robinson, ON.
Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will be primarily responsible for managing and executing alterations to heat treatment operations within our sizable commercial facility, ensuring compliance with customer standards and specifications.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the ISO 9001/IATF Business Management Systems
  • Offering expertise in metallurgical and material science aspects relevant to heat treating products
  • Collaborating with the Quality Manager to integrate quality systems and facilitate their implementation
  • Aiding in training and auditing of plant personnel for inspection and testing tasks
  • Supervising the calibration and maintenance of testing equipment, including furnace control systems
  • Working with the Quality Manager to maintain a robust Quality Management system aligned with customer specifications
  • Coordinating the development and approval of quality and process-related documents
  • Managing sample runs and PPAP submissions, communicating results to stakeholders
  • Engaging with customers to discuss technical specifications and quality requirements

To qualify, you will need a Post-Secondary Education or equivalent experience, complemented by a background in Metallurgical Engineering. Additionally, you must have 5+ years of experience in material science or as a metallurgist, ideally within heat treat engineering.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Knowledge of Heat Treating processes
  • Developed background in iron and steel engineering (asset)
  • Familiarity with AMS 2750, CQi9, ISO 9001, and IATF (asset)
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality principles
  • Developed communication and interpersonal skills, especially within a unionized environment
  • Ability to make effective and prompt decisions, curating and developing processes in a in cost-efficient manner
