JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Materials Engineering position focuses on development, implementation, and qualification of melting, forging, heat treatment, machining, and inspection methods / procedures for the GE Vernova Gas Power business as well as other GE Vernova businesses as needed. This position supports Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, and HRSG product lines through projects assigned by manager and mentored by experienced senior level engineers. Projects include material and special process development programs, specification creation and revision to address product quality, field analysis of customer hardware to assess failure modes, and participation in materials development programs related to new product offerings or corrective actions to address customer issues.
In this role the Materials Engineer is responsible for development and qualification of power generation components manufactured from forgings and bar stock including critical rotating hardware utilized in industrial gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and plant support systems. Activities aimed at proving a concept to be valid or technically feasible by the application of scientific and engineering methodologies. Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team. Executes standard operational/technical tasks typically subject to instructions and work routines. There is latitude to rearrange the sequence to complete task/duties based on changing work situations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or related field, OR a high school diploma/ GED with 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum two years of materials and/or process engineering experience.
  • Ability to travel to supplier locations, estimated ~10-15%.

For U.S. based candidates only, for purposes of complying with U.S. pay transparency requirements, the base pay range for this position is $79,400.00 - 119,000.00 USD Annual.

The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for a 5% performance bonus

  • The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead qualification and development efforts for power generation components manufactured from forgings and bar stock including critical rotating hardware utilized in industrial gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and plant support systems.
  • Work together with cross-functional teams to perform supplier assessments, identify qualification requirements, and execute supplier qualifications which meet production fulfillment schedules.
  • Lead research and development program activities on new materials and processes to support new product introductions.
  • Perform root cause and corrective action analyses to troubleshoot problems with current designs and manufacturing processes.
  • Lead metallurgical investigations on fractured components received from the field and report findings to cross-functional teams.
  • Conduct material property testing programs and issue technical reports on the findings.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities through new processing methods and alternate materials.
  • Control and improve quality of components by creation and revision of specifications.
