Description:

We are seeking a Materials Engineer (or Engineer-in-Training) to join our growing team.
H2nanO is creating the next generation of technology to improve the safety and quality of our world’s most important resource: water. We are a growing environmental technology innovator, building solutions for water purification, emissions reduction, waste management, and water desalination to support sustainable industry. Using advanced materials, novel process designs, natural systems, and the power of sunlight, H2nanO creates sustainable solutions for a cleaner, greener water and energy future.
This is your opportunity to join us and contribute to building the future of Canadian environmental technology and make your mark on the future of water treatment and clean energy!

ABOUT THE JOB

Location: Kitchener, Ontario
H2nanO creates advanced materials and treatment systems that make water remediation simple and effective. We are growing our materials production capacity and developing new materials designs for enhanced treatment. H2nanO is seeking a capable and ambitious materials science and engineering talent to contribute to the development and management of our materials production operations. This role will provide a key linkage between our research and development team and our product deployment in field operations.
You will work within our expert materials development team to design and implement new materials formulations and syntheses; develop and scale production operations; conduct quality assurance and continuous improvement for materials products; assist the development of materials production scale up; and catalyze H2nanO’s growth into large scale treatment operations. Your work may include travel to supplier and operating sites. You will also help us grow and manage our own facilities and production operations, calling upon the capability to stretch from the lab bench to scale-up manufacturing in a diverse and dynamic product development process.
This is a chance to make your mark on the future of water treatment!

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Training in the field of Materials, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or Sciences or related.

Bachelor of Applied Science / Science with 2+ years of relevant experience or higher is preferred.

  • Technical expertise in materials engineering and applied chemistry, ideally with inorganic or organic powder material technologies.
  • Experience in materials science and engineering product development and/or working with new technologies, synthesis methods, and protocol development.
  • Knowledge of materials chemistry and both organic and inorganic materials manufacturing, with a focus on technical powder material production and coating technology or similar processes.
  • Practical experience in a wet chemistry and materials analysis laboratory setting, or similar hands-on materials synthesis and testing.
  • Experience in new product design, manufacturing, production start-up and optimization, and quality management, or interfacing with these operations.
  • Experience or prior team involvement in industrial process scaling, project management, and evaluating unit operations including the implementation of new production equipment and systems.
  • Hands-on skills developing and fabricating experimental or quality testing apparatuses, including basic electro-mechanical systems.
  • Instinct for safety and experience implementing or enhancing safe work practices and handling hazardous materials.
  • Proven ability to produce high quality work in both hands-on experimentation and overall independent workflow execution.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and adaptability to dynamic and multifaceted work environments.

ADDITIONAL CAPABILITIES:

  • Knowledge or natural aptitude for hands-on assembly and process flow logic, suitable to create prototypes and scale-up integration of process designs.
  • Entrepreneurial disposition; experience and instinct for bridging new products with practical application and working in dynamic, fast-paced, and highly independent projects.
  • Prior involvement in implementing new products, production systems, and quality management practices for industrial technology.
  • Great taste in water!

Responsibilities:

  • Develop new materials designs and formulations to improve performance, functionality, and reliability of our products from prototype to manufacture.
  • Scale materials synthesis protocols from the lab-bench to production, including development of proprietary methodologies and process equipment designs.
  • Complete product performance, quality analysis, and yield optimization, implementing continuous improvement practices and quality management protocols.
  • Design and operate performance and reliability testing, including custom prototyping, fabrication, and reduction to practice for test apparatuses and standard methods.
  • Contribute to materials science research, experimental design, and analytical methods towards primary research and new product creation.
  • Consult with and develop suppliers and manufacturing partners towards scaling the H2nanO materials production supply chain.
  • Manage production scheduling, materials supplies, and logistics for internal and external production operations.
  • Scale and develop internal production and quality testing capabilities, including design and implementation of new technical facilities and equipment.
  • Analyze and integrate field performance data for product and production process improvements, including design and implementation of performance monitoring and accelerated durability testing.
  • Execute technical work and data analysis workflow with high professional quality and safety standards.
  • Support day-to-day lab operations activities such as maintaining and improving lab equipment, ensuring organization of workspaces, and data management.
  • Work collaboratively on and off-site with project partners and institutional researchers as required.
