Job Title: Materials Handler X2
Status: Temporary Part Time (6 months)
Department: Logistics
Program: Logistics / Mm - Plexxus
4 and 8 Hour Shifts; Days, Evenings and Weekends Schedule (Subject to Change)
Location: Lakeridge Health Oshawa
Wage Schedule: $26.400 - $26.980 per hour

This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing March 19, 2024 and closing at 11:59 pm on March 26,2024.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have of knowledge of medical consumables;
  • Previous Materials Management experience with exposure to purchasing and physical logistics an asset;
  • Must have pervious warehousing experience, including shipping, receiving, storing and picking;
  • Must have experience with computerized Materials Management applications including SAP and/or EPIC;
  • Previous experience in OR, MDRD or Stores needed;
  • Proven ability to pay attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks is a must;
  • Proven knowledge of WHMIS and Infection Control policies/procedures;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload while functioning independently with minimum supervision;
  • Proven effective interpersonal and communications skills, both verbal and written;
  • Demonstrates ability to make decisions on quality and accuracy of work and show initiative to initiate positive change;
  • Familiar with medical equipment and terminology an asset;
  • Physically capable of performing job duties including: extended periods of lifting more than 50lbs, bending, walking, standing, pushing/pulling carts;
  • Ability to operate all manual and automatic equipment when handling supplies in a safe manner;
  • Ability to work productively in a high activity environment with many interruptions;

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Logistics Manager and Supervisor, the Material Handler is responsible for some or all of the duties below and other duties as
assigned:

Receiving and Unloading:

  • Receive incoming shipments and verify the accuracy of the items and their quantities.
  • Unload and inspect deliveries for damages and discrepancies.
  • Record and report any discrepancies or damages to the supervisor.
  • Staging of non-stock and capital products for delivery
  • Advise Manager and/or Supervisor of short supply
  • Maintaining and assisting with accurate records of all outgoing and incoming shipments and related courier paperwork
  • Coordinate with purchasing team to resolve PO discrepancies and issues.

Coordination of Inventory:

  • Organize and store materials in designated locations within the

department.

  • Maintain backup inventory.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory levels and locations using

inventory management systems.

  • Conduct periodic physical inventory counts to ensure accuracy.
  • Ensure inventory on supply carts is current including PAR levels

Order Picking and Packing:

  • Pick items from designated locations according to pick lists or orders.
  • Pack and prepare items for shipment, ensuring proper packaging to prevent damages.
  • Label and tag products accurately.

Shipping and Dispatch:

  • Prepare shipping documents and labels for outgoing shipments.
  • Ensure trucks are loaded with the correct items in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Coordinate with shipping carriers and couriers to ensure the accuracy and timely delivery of parcels.

Quality Control:

  • Inspect products for defects or damages before shipping.
  • Report any quality issues to the supervisor.
  • Ensure that all products meet quality standards.
  • React swiftly in the event of a recall to isolate affected product(s) and coordinate shipments to vendor(s).
  • Attention to detail ensure accuracy and delivery of correct supplies.

Department Maintenance:

  • Keep the department clean and organized.
  • Perform regular maintenance tasks which can include disposing of debris.
  • Ensure that aisles and walkways are clear and safe for movement.

Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Report any safety hazards or incidents to the supervisor immediately.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other team members to achieve daily operational goals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and other departments.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to help drive efficient processes and continuous improvement throughout the hospital sites.

Equipment Operation:

  • Operate warehouse equipment such as electric pallet jacks, hand trucks and scanners.
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained and report any malfunctions.
