Description:

GEMTEC is a growing firm with offices throughout Atlantic Canada and in Ontario, and we are looking for a motivated and skilled Materials Technician/Technologist to join our Team. We currently have an opening for a fulltime Materials Technician/Technologist in our Petawawa office.
The successful candidate will have the following:

EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Diploma or degree in Geotechnical Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in materials testing and inspection is preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant testing methods and procedures, including ASTM and CSA standards.
  • OACETT is an asset.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in the following:

  • Collect samples and perform laboratory and field testing of various construction materials, such as concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, etc., to determine material properties and quality.
  • Compaction testing of soil, aggregates, and asphalt concrete.
  • Testing of fresh concrete/grout/mortar and casting of laboratory specimens.
  • Conduct inspections and assessments of construction sites, document findings and provide detailed reports on test results, including analysis and recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate field reports for use by project managers and engineers.
  • Maintain effective communication with project teams, providing regular updates on field activities and findings.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Maintain and calibrate testing equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaborate with the project team to troubleshoot and resolve any materials-related issues.
  • Ability and willingness to work under varied weather conditions.
  • Capability to walk and engage in fieldwork for extended periods across occasionally challenging terrain, as well as the ability to transport equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Identify and mitigate potential hazards in the field, promoting a safe working environment.
  • Adhere to health and safety protocols, promoting a safe working environment.
  • Adhering to all company policies.
  • Other duties as required
