About Wayland Academy
Wayland is an independent, coed college preparatory school for boarding and day students, founded in 1855. The school’s rich, rigorous academic program features exceptionally small classes, capstone projects at every grade, an active STEAM program, and an array of AP offerings. The diverse and welcoming school community brings together students from across the United States and more than 20 other countries in an intimate learning environment, with a student-faculty ratio of 7:1. Wayland’s historic campus is located in the town of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin—40 miles from Madison and 60 miles from Milwaukee.
With a diverse student body, the educational experience and community at Wayland is the perfect learning environment for the 21st century. The wide-ranging electives, STEAM offerings, and capstone projects provide students with the opportunity to explore areas of individual interest and to personalize their experience. Our school motto, “Knowledge and Character,” guides us in preparing our students for successful futures.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic educator to join our faculty for the 2024-25 school year as a math teacher, coach, mentor, and dorm supervisor. This position involves teaching a full load (four sections) of math as well as other courses, coaching two sports or activities, dorm supervision one night a week and one weekend a month. Wayland faculty are knowledgeable in the subjects they teach and deeply caring when it comes to their students. We expect all faculty members to be fully engaged in the school’s life and mission, in and out of the classroom. We take pride in our faculty. We know they are much more than teachers; they play a crucial role in the students’ lives and their success.
Educational requirements include a bachelor’s degree, with a master’s preferred. Due to our academic program’s rigors, we want faculty who have made a deep, lifelong commitment to learning. A boarding school faculty member’s vocational nature requires a person with mental and physical endurance to flourish in this highly challenging and rewarding position.
Teaching, coaching, advising and personal skills preferred for success in this position at our school include:
Ability to engage students in the study of math in and outside the classroom, helping all students achieve their fullest academic and leadership potential.
Enthusiasm and dedication to contributing to our healthy learning community, energetically supporting colleagues, sharing ideas and resources, and being there for others.
Accepting and supportive attitude that encourages diverse perspectives and productive risk-taking to challenge students to think and explore opportunities that allow them to become their best.
Compassion for students and colleagues, with a high level of cultural competency.
We offer a competitive salary, room and board, and tuition remission, to name a few of the great benefits of being part of the Wayland family.
Wayland Academy believes in equal employment opportunity for all employees and applicants for employment
