Description:
Job Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise on Mathiowetz safety standards and programs – this knowledge will be obtained through industry specific training in our business organizations and a willingness to learn.
- Own, maintain, train, and continuously improve the following programs: incident reporting and investigation, emergency preparedness, hazardous communication, lock-out-tag-out, crane, forklift, respirator protection, confined space, fall protection, blood borne pathogen, emergency response plans, and hearing conservation
- Administer safety orientation for employees and contractors at main site and project locations as needed. Conduct safety meetings and seminars. Could be asked to assist in interviewing and hiring new field employees.
- Hands on Coaching / Teaching & Mentoring of safety compliance with General Laborers, Operators, Assistant Superintendents, Superintendents and Field Assistant Managers. Assisting HR in Discipline and Termination actions when related to Health and Safety.
- Proactively lead communication with Field Operations and conduct audits to ensure the projects are compliant with all OSHA, Federal and State/Local guidelines, requirements and Mathiowetz safety standards by auditing all safety training activities
- Advise, inform and generate reports for operations leadership on relevant safety initiatives based on findings during periodic audits
- Conduct accident or near miss investigations intending to find root cause analysis.
- Facilitate the Safety Committee and coordinate safety training efforts
- Monitor inventory for safety supplies and interact with vendors
- Support the ERT (Emergency Response Team) training
- Monitor industrial hygiene and noise sampling
Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Attention to detail, ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, comfort in speaking in front of groups.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel),
- Ability to collaborate with others through complex situations and encourage a team to buy in to safety culture.
- Excellent decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is valuable but not required
- Ability and willingness to support Mathiowetz’s safety critical mission, therefore, be available outside normal work hours for emergency safety situations.

Job Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or GED, Industry training resources will be used for knowledge enhancement
- Experience: Safety experience preferred
