JOB DESCRIPTION

BAE Systems Jacksonville Ship Repair Division has multiple openings for Heavy Industrial Machinery Mechanics with varying degrees of experience. The Mechanic performs a variety of skilled mechanical duties involving Maritime Equipment such as deck machinery, engine room work, general dock, rudders, shafting, propeller work, and testing. The Mechanic will have the opportunity to gain general knowledge of equipment operations for assembly, installation and testing that may include; records work performed and follows specified safety policies and procedures.
As a Industrial Mechanic you will:
- Perform a variety of skilled mechanical duties involving deck machinery, engine room work, general dock, rudders, shafting, propeller work, and testing.
- Use knowledge of equipment operation for assembly, installation and testing.
- Perform valve and pump repair and overhaul.
- Repair components using blueprints, sketches and sample parts.
- Work on Maritime Equipment
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on facility machinery.
In addition, Externally applied candidates, if hired will be eligible to receive a $1000.00 sign-on bonus within 60 days of hire.
Relocation assistance can be provided to selected candidates who live more than 50 miles outside the Jacksonville Florida Metropolitan area.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS
Required Education, Experience and Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Entry to Journeyman level experience in the Heavy Industrial Machinery / Mechanics field. I.E. Machining Shop, Automotive, Diesel, Boiler Repair, or Certificate of Completion from a Certified Technical or Trade School.
- Read, write and comprehend simple instructions
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form
- Able to calculate and understand units of measure, including fractions and decimals
- Know how to measure using a scale and tape measure
- Read, understand, and interpret advanced blueprints to preform task required
- Use of measuring devices (rulers, micrometers, dial indicators, depth mics, scales, etc.), hand tools, and power tools
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- This is a Full Time position with a Defense Manufacturing Firm. The selected candidate must be able to obtain and maintain Defense Biometric Identification System “DBIDS” access card.
