The world relies on HPS to continually conceive and produce state-of-the-art transformer technology. We currently have an opening for a Mechanical Engineering Designer L2, come grow with us!
Reporting to the Mechanical Design Manager, this position is also responsible for the Mechanical Design for all transformer distribution and power products. Mechanical design would include the responsibility to review quotations for special mechanical requirements, review the customer order package, complete the outline approval drawings for medium and complex designs and to complete the detail manufacturing drawings in the most cost-effective manner and to meet the SOT & DPMO Department targets. This position is located at our Guelph, ON Head Office.

DO YOU QUALIFY? WE ARE SEEKING:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical), design, tech
  • Min. 3 years design experience in Transformers and/or Reactors, specialty transformers
  • Attention to design details, accuracy & timelines
  • Expertise in drafting software (SolidWorks and ACAD)
  • Sense of responsibility and accountability
  • Strong Communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • Custom Order Design and Simple Complexity Design
  • Review quote, order specifications, bus co-ordination
  • Work in conjunction with the Electrical Designers
  • Discuss any discrepancies/clarifications with the Mechanical Design Supervisor, Electrical Designer, Sales and at times the Customer
  • Prepare medium and complex mechanical design outline drawings using ACAD or SolidWorks
  • Send approval outline drawing to Sales for approval
  • Review customer comments (if any) on approved drawings
  • Prepare the mechanical manufacturing drawings
  • Prepare final enclosure drawings and forward to Purchasing
  • Order any special materials if required
  • Communicate the final details for the design with the Electrical Designers
  • Create drawings for filing storage (PDF drawings) for electronic storage
  • Be able to take site measurements for retro-fit replacement transformers
  • Be able to solve problems/issues on the shop floor
  • Review and resolve any mechanical design field issues raised by the customer
  • Review reported MOS issues and complete them in a timely manner
  • Recommend continuous improvement or cost reduction projects based on trends or patterns in team’s MOS/ODC reports
