Description:

Yamaha has an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer II to join our Marine team in Kennesaw GA. The Mechanical Engineer II will participate/lead the product development cycle by contributing to idea validation, design, prototyping, product testing, business planning, participation pilot production, and manufacturing/integration of the part/system into commercialization for new Sport Boat Platforms. They will work and communicate in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment executing projects due to their excellent communication and engineering judgment and keen attention to schedule and budget.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes: FRP molding (open & RTM), Machining, Casting, Thermo & Vacuum Forming
  • Boat development experience preferred
  • 3D modeling in Solidworks (Part design, assemblies, 2D drawings)
  • FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis
  • Experience with static structural FEA analysis
  • Ability to design, build and test prototype parts in a fast-paced setting
  • Strong hands-on shop and fabrication skills
  • Must possess good engineering judgment and analysis
  • Strong oral & written communication and presentation skills
  • Must be able to travel to factory, suppliers, and various testing/research locations
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize changing workloads
  • Experience in working with multidisciplinary R&D teams to develop new products

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development and execution of new sport boat (SB) features/systems from concept to market with the emphasis on the design, validation and prototyping in the early development phase of the product development cycle. Establishes and executes project scope, budgets, and schedules.
  • Assist in establishing design and qualification test criteria to ensure a cost-effective product which meets Yamaha performance, quality and reliability requirements.
  • Building strong working relationships with the following teams is essential to day-to-day job functions: Sport boat Product Management, Procurement Engineers, Quality engineers, Jet Boat Manufacturing Factory, Mechanical/Electrical Design Engineers, Test Engineers, manufacturing engineers, advanced system and vehicles engineers, industrial design firm, Patent Engineers, Market Research, Sales, Suppliers and Engineers in Japan
  • Develop component, assembly, and system concepts using 3D CAD/2D Drawings and produce prototypes for testing.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams and ensure a smooth hand off from concept validation in the early development phase to the sport boat factory for their execution of new product into new platform.
  • Travel required to Yamaha facilities, suppliers, and test sites.
  • Assist in creating bill of materials for new programs with high attention to part costs.
  • Technical interface to product management
  • Technical support to suppliers and factories
  • Interface with Jet Boat Manufacturing Engineers, Testing Teams, procurement and QC for on-water testing and verification of product performance.
