Description:

Overview:
Mechanical Engineer specializing in Rotating Equipment to join our dynamic team at Prairie State Generating Company. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the maintenance, optimization, and troubleshooting of rotating equipment within our power plant facility. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the reliability and efficiency of our power generation processes. accountability and responsibility for a variety of mechanical systems in the Power Plant such as: Main Turbine Generator, Main Turbine Valves, Boiler Feed Pump Turbine and Valves, Turbine Hydraulic Control Systems, Boiler Feed Pumps, Circulating Water Pumps, Condensate Pumps, Various Vertical Turbine Pumps, other large rotating equipment, and other systems assigned as necessary. Responsible to coordinate & oversee repairs to equipment in the systems listed above. The focus will be on the application of technical skills and ingenuity in the maintenance and repair of equipment in the Power Plant. Cross training into other systems is encouraged for development.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting routine inspections and assessments of rotating equipment such as turbines, generators, pumps, and compressors to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Developing and implementing maintenance strategies to minimize downtime and maximize equipment lifespan.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams including operations, maintenance, and reliability to identify and address equipment issues in a timely manner.
  • Performing root cause analysis for equipment failures and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Providing technical support and guidance during equipment overhauls, upgrades, and commissioning activities.
  • Utilizing predictive maintenance techniques such as vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis to anticipate potential equipment failures and schedule maintenance activities accordingly.
  • Staying abreast of industry trends and best practices in rotating equipment technology and maintenance methodologies.
  • Within the first year of employment, the candidate shall complete 15 weeks of training that involves shadowing an operations shift for the purpose of learning how the plant operates. The operations department is on a 5 shift, 12 hour day, DuPont schedule.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience (5 years) in the maintenance and troubleshooting of rotating equipment, preferably within a power generation or heavy industrial environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of rotating equipment principles, including but not limited to turbomachinery, bearings, seals, and vibration analysis.
  • Proficiency in engineering software tools and CMMS systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organization
