Are you a Mechanical Engineer looking for an exciting new opportunity? We’re recruiting a Mechanical Engineer, Static Equipment in Fort McMurray.
As a member of our Syncrude Engineering team, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving safety & reliability on all Static Equipment classes (e.g. piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, furnaces, tanks, boilers etc.) that enable business units to operate safely and reliably.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Seven years of engineering experience
  • A Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Must be a Professional Engineer or eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • Experience in static equipment inspection, maintenance and design and have an extensive knowledge of commonly used design and fabrication codes as well as post construction specifications for pressure vessels, furnaces, heat exchangers and process & slurry piping
  • Knowledge of and experience using mechanical design tools for static equipment (such as PV Elite, CAESAR II stress analysis, SagePlus, CodeCalc etc.) to support design verification and FFS assessment

Responsibilities:

  • Provide general mechanical engineering support relating to static equipment fitness for service (FFS) assessment, repair specifications, re-rate assessment, failure investigation, purchase specification, equipment strategies support etc. to site operating units
  • Preparation of high quality engineering packages (both turnaround and running unit). These include Repair packages (both emergency and routine maintenance), Upgrade packages with management of change, risk assessment / peer review, revised drawings and data sheets, etc
  • Provide input into shutdown scope development based on previous history and known future issues
  • Provide improvements to plant operation and reliability through innovative engineering and resolve root cause performance problems with static pressure equipment
  • Work collaboratively with other disciplines which includes inspections, materials engineering, process, operations, and maintenance to resolve plant reliability issues
  • Responsible for achieving code compliance and obtaining regulatory design approvals
  • Provide mentorship to other mechanical engineers in authenticating specification deviations and engineering packages

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of a Syncrude location in Fort McMurray
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
