Description:

The University of Virginia is accepting applications for a Mechanical Engineering Technician or Mechanical Engineering Associate to join the Design Services team within Facilities Management. The successful candidate will fill one of these positions based on their experience, education, skills, and abilities. We are a multi-discipline team engaged in all facets of building engineering and provide design services for a wide variety of University renovations including classrooms, labs, healthcare facilities, athletic facilities, and student housing. Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia’s wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA’s buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (BOTH POSITIONS):

  • Use of critical thinking and the ability to communicate ideas.
  • Ability to meet preset deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts and principles.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology, including design software, to perform engineering analysis and prepare construction documents.
  • Ability to communicate with stakeholders to present design options and explain selected solutions.
  • Excellent time management skills including the ability to manage individual’s work across multiple concurrent project schedules.

Responsibilities:

In addition to duties listed above,

  • Provide engineering calculations and analysis of mechanical systems with oversight from senior team members.
  • Review submittals and perform construction administration services.
  • Provide project management support for mechanical and plumbing engineering specific projects.
  • Develop and maintain project workbook using eBuilder.
  • Other duties as assigned
