Description:

The Gear Centre Group, a leading provider of powertrain parts and service for the automotive, heavy truck and off-highway equipment industries, is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technologist in Edmonton, AB.
The Mechanical Engineering Technologist - Applications Specialist is responsible for implementing and utilizing mechanical systems technologies practically. This includes testing, troubleshooting, and optimizing mechanical systems to ensure their efficient performance in real-world applications. Additionally, responsibilities for this role include sourcing, pricing, and negotiating with vendors for various materials and equipment. While experience or education in customs would be advantageous, it is not mandatory, as training will be provided for suitable candidates.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design components and assemblies using CAD software.
  • Analyze and continuously test mechanical systems on the shop floor.
  • Conduct research and feasibility studies to identify innovative solutions and optimize product performance.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to select and source materials, components, and equipment.
  • Perform testing, validation, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to support product development and improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical support to internal teams, customers, and suppliers, addressing inquiries and resolving issues.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and advancements, applying new knowledge to enhance our products and processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in the automotive or heavy-duty equipment industry.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and engineering analysis tools.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with product testing, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
