Description:

To gain an Electrical Maintenance or a Mechanical Maintenance qualification following a four year apprenticeship programme. The successful candidate will gain experience and competence in:
The scheduled servicing, installation, repair and maintenance of a diverse range of Mechanical or Electrical plant and equipment in an acute hospital and community environment.
There are two Apprenticeship positions available.
1 x Electrical Maintenance Apprentice
1 x Mechanical Maintenance Apprentice
To be in a position to be able to be offered a full time substantive position at the end of the apprenticeship the successful applicant will need to have completed their qualification in full and demonstrate competence in this field.

YEAR 2 INCREASE DEPENDENT ON AGE:

Under 18 = £6.40/hr (£12,480 p.a. approx. - 37.5hrs/wk.)
18 20 yrs. = £8.60/hr (£16,770 p.a. approx. - 37.5hrs/wk.)
21 + yrs. = £11.44/hr (£22,308 p.a. approx. - 37.5hrs/wk.
Once fully qualified and competent this role will be a Band 4 position.
Diagnose, fault find, and repair faults on a range of plant, equipment and services.
Learn how to carry out planned preventative maintenance to statutory requirements.
Learn how to carry out statutory inspections and testing of plant, equipment and services to ensure their safe operation and meet current standards.
Use all relevant tools and equipment as necessary.
Learn how to plan and evaluate and order materials for the necessary job requisitions.
Communicate with others on aspects of their work, including any problems encountered.
Make arrangements to attend wards / departments for access or availability of room / area / equipment to carry out work as requested.
Participate in systems of work and complete all necessary paperwork to statutory and Trust requirements.
Follow drawings, specifications under the necessary guidance of others follow Trust and statutory requirements regarding health and safety at work.

On-Call
Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.
Completion of an apprenticeship.
Undertake training and instruction to achieve nationally recognised qualification as an advanced Mechanical or Electrical engineering apprentice.
Undertake practical training and instruction relating to the engineered services and process specific to the WWL NHS Trust estate to satisfactorily achieve recognised craft status.
To develop analytical, diagnostic and repair competencies in highly complex and critical engineering installations and systems. These systems will include the following examples:
Mobile medical gases
Domestic hot water supplies
Central heating services
Site Utilities – Gas, Water, Sewage and waste water
Air conditioning, ventilation and air handling systems.
Refrigeration equipment.
Standby Generators and associated equipment.
Nurse and emergency call systems to warded areas.
“Low voltage” (up to 415volt a.c.) switchgear and distribution boards and circuits.
