Description:

SBM is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineering Trainee/Designer to join the Mechanical Division in our London office. The candidate will be responsible for assisting with mechanical analysis and design for a variety of building types, including single-family and multi-residential dwellings (included in Part 9 of the OBC). The candidate will be required to work with the mechanical design and engineering team in producing drawings and reports for building permits and construction. The candidate will be expected to work both independently and within the project group to facilitate the design requirements to reach project completion. The candidate will also be encouraged to take on special project tasks to help promote efficiencies of current design procedures. Other duties may be assigned dependent on the experience and abilities of the chosen candidate.

The firm employs over 120 engineers, engineering trainees, technologists, technicians, planners, and administrative personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and drafting of mechanical systems and components.
  • Assist in the completion of heat loss/gain calculations.
  • Preparation of mechanical drawings, reports, and forms.
  • Coordinate with the engineering team and other design disciplines, as required.
  • Occasional site visits as required.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Mechanical Leads or Mechanical Division Manager.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Technology or equivalent.
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Any relatable experience considered an asset—specifically plumbing and HVAC design and/or installation.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; proficiency in AutoCAD, Wrightsoft, and REVIT considered an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional and personal growth; willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work both independently, with little supervision, and in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adaptable and flexible to changing priorities.
  • Capable of working and/or managing several projects at the same time.
