Description:

COMPANY INTRODUCTION

At Railnova we’re helping Railway organizations in their digitalization efforts: we’re changing how train fleets are managed, rolling stock maintenance is planned and faults on trains are diagnosed.
We design and manufacture internally our own hardware (Railster) and software, to enable railway companies to connect their trains and to monitor all business-critical parameters. Thanks to our products, clients are alerted in advance of failures, they can replace their calendar-based maintenance with condition-based maintenance, and they are able to identify best driving practices to reduce energy consumption.
Railnova has a very skilled and entrepreneurial team, and to help us further accompany our clients in their digital transformation journey to advance railway transportation to the next level we’re looking for a talented Mechatronics Engineer focused on Electronics.
Mechatronics Engineer (focused on Electronics) - Job description

Railnova is seeking a highly skilled Mechatronics Engineer with a strong affinity for electronics to join our dynamic TrainTech team. This role focuses on:

  • the industrialization of our electronic product, enabling the internal manufacturing
  • the electrical and mechanical integration of our Railster device into various types of rolling stock, ensuring seamless IoT data transmission

You will play a crucial role in designing and industrializing sophisticated electromechanical components and systems (typically based on Raspberry Pi), either for our customers’ locomotives or our internal production lines located in Brussels (close to the Brussel-Midi station).

As a Mechatronics Engineer and active member of the Traintech team, you will face a diverse set of responsibilities mixing improvements on our internal production line and the realization of professional services on our customers’s rolling stock. This includes firstly:

  • introducing new products on the production line by:
  • setting up jetting, pick&place machine, reflow oven, coating machine, etc.
  • writing instructions and documentation for the production
  • making technical decisions to enable the highly qualitative production of the series
  • supporting the production operators on the production floor (including electronics debugging),
  • designing and improving test systems,
  • understanding technical issues and implementing actions to avoid the reoccurrence of the issues,
  • contributing to the roadmap definition and execution to continuously improve our production operations,

and, your scope of responsibilities could later extend by:

  • Potentially after a visit to a locomotive in a workshop in Europe, analyzing train electrical schematics to identify optimal connection points for various field busses (MVB, Can Bus, J1708, RS484, Ethernet, RS232, FIP) and sensors (battery, level sensors, temperature sensors, vibration sensors, etc.),
  • Designing and developing cabling and connectors solutions to seamlessly integrate Railster devices within customer’s various types of trains, metros, trams, locomotives, and high-speed trains,
  • Create clear, pragmatic technical documentation and installation instructions to facilitate client installations. And occasionally, install the cabling kits yourself in the train

Also, because Railnova values employee collaboration, you will help other team members solve problems that are blocking deliveries to our customers.
If you are passionate about driving the future of railway digitalization and possess a unique blend of electronics, software/coding, and mechanical skills, then, you are probably the next mechatronics engineer we are looking for…
-

Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electromechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • You are able to read and understand electronics and electrical schematics to design test systems or debug electronic products.
  • You are not afraid to code notebooks and applications (Python, SQL) to automate operations.
  • You have good communication skills in English and French and can effectively interact with operators and clients. German is a plus.
  • You have an analytical eye and a knack for problem-solving with a hands-on approach
  • You have a good personal organization and are able to juggle between different activities (including traveling ca. 2 days per month).
  • You are a proactive, autonomous learner and a team player with a keen interest in continuous improvement.
  • Experience in PCBA production, Altium Designer, GitHub, Pandas library, or mechanical design software (AutoCAD, Solidworks) is a plus.
  • Experience with designing cabling schematics and familiarity with industrial buses and protocols (MVB, Can, J1708, J1939, RS232, RS485, FIP) is a plus.
