The Certified Medical Assistant is a non-exempt position responsible for providing clinical support to Nephrologists and patients while handling multiple clinical and administrative tasks, including: rooming patients, collecting patient health information, gathering outside patient records, answering a high volume of incoming phone calls and messages, completing physician orders and obtaining Prior Authorizations. The successful Medical Assistant assures that questions and issues are resolved both promptly and accurately, in a manner that callers can understand, while thoroughly assessing and efficiently gathering information, in a professional and courteous manner. Duties may include, but are not limited to, patient check-in and check-out, clinical and administrative tasks, chart preparation, patient phone calls and updating electronic medical records.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma, or equivalent
- Medical Assistant Certification (required)
- Current CPR Certification
- 2+ years of clinical experience
- Knowledge of Electronic Health Records
- Knowledge of health insurance plans
- Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to multi-task, set priorities, and manage time effectively
- Patient focused and adaptable to different personality type
Responsibilities:
(include, but not limited to)
- Perform procedures under supervision of Physician or Nurse Practitioner
- Assist Providers in exam rooms
- Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs – including: weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature
- Document all information in patent’s electronic medical record
- Provide instructions to patients, as instructed by Provider
- Obtain Prior Authorizations, through patient insurance companies
- Ensure all related patient reports, labs and information are available in patients’ medical records, prior to their appointment
- Register patients during the Check-In process at time of arrival, and Check-Out patients during time of departure
- Answer phone and schedule patients, make reminder calls
- Take telephone messages and provide feedback
- Answer patient/physician/pharmacy calls
- Welcome patients and visitors, in a positive manner, as they enter the office
- Verify accurate patient demographic information and insurance information
- Input and correct insurance information, collect and post co-pays; and balance and close out, at the end of day
- Print missed appointment letters, mail and scan (if/when necessary)
- Keep exam rooms stocked, and maintained, with adequate medical supplies and instruments
- Triage and process messages from patients, and other staff, to Providers
- Maintain all logs and required checks
- Display ability to work in a team environment
- Other duties, as assigned

Full vaccination against COVID-19 OR weekly COVID-19 testing, in addition to wearing a mask, is required. A medical/religious exemption is required for any unvaccinated teammates planning to visit a clinic or working on any of our federal contracts.
